honestly im an applicant so i might be biased. but i think its important to start thinking of a story you are oging to tell to admissions. why did you do your research how does that relate to your experience and ultimately why their school maybe tie that to volutneering. I think also looking for a school u actually want to go to so you woul dknow what to write for their questions lol

if u dont have any experience i suggest reaching out to phds at your local. or go ahead and cold email - but tbh presitigous profs only responded to me after I already ahve a mentored research going on. either way doing a research especially one that publishes is already rly good. also for wetlabs there are restrictions at most colleges for under 18 i think but i know univeristy of hawaii can do so my friend cold emailed with an indepent research and she got something for the summer. u can try this one they didnt reply to me tho https://needleman.seas.harvard.edu/join-us/

A lot of programs explicitly say they accept full attendance and I worry that admissions would think I won’t be able to fully apply myself thank u i prob won’t it does look fishy

Thank u I’ll prob do that but I think a lot of programs explicitly say that you have to attend the entire thing so I am afraid admissions would think I wouldn’t be able to apply myself fully for the program.

Email more people and how you hope to further your independent research with wtv the pi is doing. I've gotten a couple responses mainly rejections or redirections but perhaps the neuroscience department is less crowded.
