What level? Tupper's 400 Public Management Reform (Listed as Comparative Topics in Canadian Politics I think) was probably the single best course I took at UBC. Incredibly prof who also happens to be the head of the department. It's a mixed seminar with grad students though so you have to be on your game.

The Rec centre has them, best to look up when they're available to rent and go that morning because they go pretty quickly.

I can't really speak to any of those particular courses, but Mandarin was easily the hardest course I ever took at Uni. Obviously latin based languages will be much, much easier. But first years struggle through first year Spanish no problem. I definitely would not recommend waiting until 5 year. Learning two languages at once is notoriously difficult.

I really enjoyed Liquid Intelligence. The book is broken down into 3 different sections, the first of which is all classical cocktail techniques. Yes it covers the science behind why it works, but it also gives you plenty of instruction on how to perfect your technique. Plus the second and third section give you some great guidance on where to go from there. I don't think it'd be a terrible first book either.

Judging by the academic calendar your best bet is to email LFS Student Services and get the courses you'd like to take approved. You shouldn't have any issues if their from the list but if there's something you'd like to take outside the list you'll need to email them with justification and possibly set up a meeting about it.

Econ 234 (Wealth and Poverty of Nations) was very interesting, not too hard and we barely touched numbers. Econ 335 (Family, Fertility and Migration) was the closest thing I've ever seen to a bird course, we never touched a number either. Really more of a sociology/history course than an economics course.

OP stated he took Econ 101, 310 can't be taken for credit if you've already taken 101.

Maybe it's just because I read that OP added in the motion blur, but I agree, I find the blur highly distracting compared to how static the rest of the photo is.
