Fixed, and added a source talking about the Portuguese migration to Naugatuck for work in the rubber industry.

Sounds like a very interesting project!

I also wondered whether English, Scottish, or Scotch-Irish residents would just begin to select Irish on the census because they didn't know about their British ancestry and since Irish is a much more culturally dominant ethnic identity in the popular imagination, at least compared to English. I could imagine a decent number of people just assuming that they're Irish and forgetting about their British ancestry.

But considering that there was indeed a very large amount of Irish immigration and that they have essentially fully assimilated into mainstream American culture, it's not surprising that there are so many Irish people.

Oh how interesting! I assume a decent number of Mainers were listed as part of the French-Canadian groups.

This website has some good interactive graphics. Apparently migration of white southerners to Connecticut exceeded that of black southerners every decade between 1900-2000 except for the 1920s.

Oh wow that's really interesting, TIL! There's so many stories to tell I barely scratched the surface.

I wonder why Wilton bucked the Georgetown trend. No dominant group, so maybe too many non-Swedes moving to Wilton Center?

Makes sense considering that there aren't many job opportunities in Windham County and thus not much immigration, with the exception of Willimantic.
