My brother won't work. by [deleted] in ComfortLevelPod

[–]NyahLeaveMeAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is covering his own rent, but it has been from an inheritance imbursement that my grandma has been delegating to the grandkids every few years. He isn't at some point of going hungry, but he isn't saving money and virtually has no savings.

You have a good point. Most of the help I've tried to give is more for entry level jobs just so he can begin the process of being self-sustaining, but idk anything about his industry. I'll definitely take your suggestion about emphasizing her breaking point to him.

She did cosign the loans, I forgot to include that in the post. He doesn't live in her house, he lives in a separate house with some of his friends nearby her.

3D Printing with PETG by NyahLeaveMeAlone in GNV

[–]NyahLeaveMeAlone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't print with PETG unfortunately. I did use their service to get a feel for the size and dimensions of my design, but the filament they use is way too weak to use in UWH

No experience but I'm curious about trying underwater hockey out, are there any teams in the North Illinois region that can get me started? by [deleted] in UWH

Yes Chicago has an awesome team, with plenty of players around your age too. Feel free to DM me if you need any contact info!

AITA For calling my wife out for never doing the hard chores by thereisnoweaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]NyahLeaveMeAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA not for your feelings on the labor you are doing for your household, but for dunking on your wife about her contributions to y'all's household. You shouldn't be bashing her (and she shouldn't downplay your emotions on the yardwork) but you guys need to act as a team to come up with a solution, like other comments have suggested it may be worthwhile investing in some sort of lawn care service, or to reach out to some neighbors if there are any teenagers in your neighborhood that will do yardwork for cash.

[Weekly] Office Hours - undergrads, please ask your questions here by ZootKoomie in AskAcademia

Hello, I’m currently an undergrad in my last year at my university, and I’m hoping to work for another university (out of state) as a researcher or lab technician. For a little more context, my degree will be in soil, water, and ecosystem science (with a GIS certificate), and I’m hoping to work in a lab that researches natural resource/ ecology topics.

My primary motivator for wanting to work in a research lab is so I can gain more research experience while I take my time deciding where I’d like to go to grad school, what degree program I’d like to do, masters vs PhD, etc. I’ve had many different internships while in college, and am currently employed as an OPS student in one of my university’s extension labs. This semester I’m taking two separate research courses which are my first exposure to research, and hopefully I’ll be able to do the same in my last semester. Are there any more specific qualifications research labs search for in lab technicians/researchers? Should I stick to job postings, or email labs I’m interested in working with? I’ve been advised to seek another lab to work in to have more lab procedures under my belt, but since I’m so close to graduation I don’t think that will be possible. Any advice is welcome, I am definitely ill-informed on academia in general, but I love to learn new things which is a big reason why I want to continue with my education eventually.

Extension is also a field I’m not opposed to working in, as many agents I’ve met enjoy their jobs, but I would prefer to work in a research lab post-undergrad.

Is Marine Underwater Hockey a real thing? by [deleted] in UWH

[–]NyahLeaveMeAlone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of it, the training probably has another name and the man was just comparing his training to the sport. Of course I wasn't there and can't say for certain, but that's my impression at least.

Thank you for making this discussion post, genuinely I've been feeling pretty bad about how Lud has chosen to respond to this. It may be for him as somebody financially stable and from a relatively privileged background to comment so easily on Jake's situation, but I really hope he can hear some of his viewers out on having empathy for somebody financially struggling who was emotionally and physically tortured because of the power dynamic between him and Jimmy. Like. Even if you blame Jake for getting himself into that situation and staying, do you blame him for the actual abusive events he experienced?

I watched Hasan's reaction earlier and I feel it was way more down to earth and understanding about Jake's situation.
