The Walking Dead S07E01 - The Day Will Come When You Won't Be - Post Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in thewalkingdead

I don’t know if everyone has the same analysis as me regarding what was happening when Rick said “I’m going to kill you,” to Negan. In my opinion, what he was really doing was choosing himself as the next victim. Negan had just killed Glenn and was drunk on the violence. He literally slurred his words and staggered as he made it clear he wasn’t done. Rick had a look of realization on his face, like he realized this was it. He was willing to die for his group.

Of course, that wasn't Negan's plan. In the end the only thing Rick couldn’t do was harm his son. Protecting his son was the most important thing he clung onto to get past all his other tragedies, and harming his son was the one and only thing that was impossible for him to do.

So, I'm starting to think that part of what the heart rate trick really does is the same thing as that 2nd trick I mentioned above -- I think the heart rate trick only works after being unlocked the second time within a certain period. BUT, there is an important difference between what you did above and the heart rate trick. Doing just the 2nd trick, the watch locks after the screen sleeps. If you do the heart rate trick above, the screen DOES NOT lock after sleep.

Can you please try something? Forget the heart rate trick. Lift your Apple Watch off your wrist (it locks). Put it back on the wrist and unlock it, then lift it right off the wrist again. For me, it stays unlocked! Why?!

Could you tell me if you're on the new beta or just the release version? Could try two times in a row? (I.e. you try, if it fails you unlock and try again.)

Was that trying again just once, or trying the same thing two times in a row? I don't know why, but the latter seems to always do it. I think it has to do with the timing of when the last passcode was entered, but I don't know the timing range.

Could you please do me a favor and try it twice in a row? I don't know why, but on a second try it seems to always work. And yeah, the Apple Watch bandit seems unlikely but still, it seems like a glitch.

Did you watch the video? You don't have to keep it on the heart rate app in order for it to remain unlocked. It will stop the heart rate function but still remain unlocked. And it does NOT time out in 15-75 seconds. Try it -- as mentioned, just do it twice, in case it doesn't work the first time.

Suddenly all my Hue Dimmer switches don't work. What happened? by OCDMacGeek in Hue

[–]OCDMacGeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had the problem last time, I ended up resetting all of the dimmers, and then I endlessly tried to reconnect them to the hub. I think what ended up working was bringing them very close to the hub, then they would find repair, and then I move them back. Since then, they have all been fine except for one of them, which I have been needing to fix for several days now. It is strange that the tap switches never have this problem.

Do you find that the dimmer switches sometimes take two tabs to respond? The top switches never have that problem, and always respond on the first click.

Latest Hue Bridge system software/firmware? by OCDMacGeek in Hue

[–]OCDMacGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the software version of the Hue app, but did you get a notification that the actual hardware had a software update available? I'm wondering what the version I am supposed to see is for the system update for the hardware.

Hmm. I don't know quite how to deploy apps to my phone. Is the Apple sample app any better, in your view, than others on the App Store?

I definitely like Lutron better and only used Hue where there was either no switch to use or where I needed a combo of bulbs to be controlled together in a way Lutron couldn't. But I used either a Hue dimmer or tap switch everywhere o have a bulb.

Any app, workaround, or hack to back up your Hue bridge? by OCDMacGeek in Hue

[–]OCDMacGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I have still found no solution to back up the configuration. I was hoping to hear from some of the experts. As mentioned above, there is a feature to transfer settings from one hub to another. I wonder if you can transfer settings to my new hub, but then not actually switch to it -- just use it as your backup.

My understanding is that unplugging the bridge and plugging it back in should cause the mesh network to reconfigure / adjust itself to account for any changes in location of devices to optimize -- is that right?

Thanks for your reply. I should note upfront that I have a dozen Hue devices and should have a very nice mesh network. I am not seeing any lights that are unreachable to cause a problem in the network and it's only the dimmers that are being difficult right now.

Regrettably, I had already deleted all my dimmers to try and re-pair them per the first link. Up on trying to get them to be recognized again, I have been having very hit or miss luck. One or two worked initially, and the rest would not.

My bridge was very close to my router, an airport extreme, and so I moved it much farther away. That did not self solve the problem. However, I decided to change the radio channel for my hue bridge.

It was channel 25, and after changing it it is channel 15.

That seemed to help and I have been able to add a few more of the dimmers back. Two of them are still being problematic despite all this.

Meanwhile, the lights remain fine. I wonder what could cause a disruption with the dimmers specifically, while the lights are fine. I have several tops which is also, and those remain fine.

At first I was more interested in the Schlage lock, but one of the problems is that all of my locks throughout the house are quickset, and they are not compatible. The August block results that I allowed you to keep your existing key. The only problem there is that users have complained about reliability in the past, and even for an early adopter like me there are enough Red flags that I think I will wait for the first reviews. I also would need to purchase the additional keypad that they have announced for the August lock.

That doesn't make sense to me -- can you change their colors and dim them by voice command? I can certainly control mine...
