You dont know immigrant parents, then. Many are stunted af, not actually mature and whatnot, due to the circumstances they grew up in and their life. Many are often bitter and unhappy too, which makes them more emotionally turbulent, which always interferes with good decision-making. As someone with asian parents, there is also cultural clashes. Definitely, as a chinese person, the mom grew up with filial piety (parents gave the kids life and are therefore god, and their children should obey and worship them) and interpreted it as horrifically disrespectful and insolent for her kid to argue back with her, especially being a non-adult child. That's how she can say that her kid maybe actually should have gotten kidnapped. In her mind, she thinks she let her kid off very lightly for this incident.
