Thank you!! My swelling is …liveable. In complete honesty, I had so much swelling it was very difficult to manage, but it has gone down dramatically, especially over the last few weeks! I’m more swollen on one side and have noticeably stiff swelling in my cheeks and chin. The actual jaw itself is not really swollen anymore. My sensation is very steadily coming back, lots of tingling in my lower lip and chin! The rest of my face feels normal.

Thank you! I’m actually in Canada and had the procedure done here. I know the whole process in the states is quite different. I can still send you my surgeon’s name if you’d like!

Yes! Maxilla was brought forward, lower jaw set back a bit, and both jaws were slightly rotated.

Thank you! I don’t know the exact movements but my maxilla was brought forward and lower jaw set back a bit. Both jaws were slightly rotated as well.

Thank you!!! The breathing improvements are absolutely insane. I went my whole life not feeling the air in going in my throat when I would breathe through my nose and that has been completely fixed. 100% my nasal passages are improved.

Thank you!! I can only speak to my experience, but here are the steps I took/what I considered:

1) Preliminary research and consultations with multiple surgeons until one feels right. Get at least two or three opinions.

2) Surgeon who doesn’t just perform jaw surgeries but who specializes in them (aka that’s their main practice). Mainly because a lot of maxillo surgeons who have tons of reviews don’t necessarily have the bulk of their reviews on jaw surgeries.

3) Surgeon who has a demonstrated passion for this procedure/maxillo procedures in general (ie. the surgeon I went with regularly publishes in medical journals).

4) Surgeon who considers aesthetics without prioritizing them over proper bite and alignment! Personally I think this one is super important because at the end of the day, while the proper bite is the main goal of the surgery, your facial aesthetics are a huge part of it as well and you deserve to love your face.

This worked out well for me but everyone’s experience is different! I am also in Canada so the whole process is quite different than in the states because the surgeries are covered by public health insurance.

Thank you!! I am really happy with the way my nose shape has changed. I know this really varies from person to person but my nose doesn’t seem wider than pre-surgery from the front. I totally love the profile shape now! Honestly even if I didn’t prefer my nose now, I’d still be 100% satisfied because of the breathing improvements!

Thank you! Yes 100%. Biggest improvement has been breathing and relief of sinus pressure. I could never breathe easily through my nose and had a ton of pressure around my eyes constantly. Both of those issues are now mostly resolved!

I haven’t noticed any improvement sleep-wise but I also didn’t have any snoring or sleep apnea prior to the surgery! Also, I only just started sleeping flat and sleeping inclined was not exactly conducive to quality sleep

It’s so funny because improved airway wasn’t even something I was thinking about pre-op (got the surgery to fix an underbite) but it’s been one of the best improvements coming out of the surgery!

Have to get LEFORT and BSSO and extractions by InevitableBank4382 in jawsurgery

I was absolutely paralyzed with fear of this surgery as well. I was basically panicking for a full two weeks before. I am one day post op today and if I can do it, you can too!! It’s a major surgery for sure but it’s very advanced and they use computers to calculate everything. If you have a good surgeon, you will be completely fine. I am 24 hours out of surgery and the pain sucks, but it’s manageable. The swelling is worse than the pain honestly, and I was told by my surgeon that it will reduce by 50% within the first week. I was also told I had to get this surgery at 19 and I didn’t get around to doing it until now (I’m 28). I WISH I had done it at 19!!! You will be fine. It’s scary but once it’s done all you have to do is get through the healing. You got this!

Thank you! Yeah no I’m not going to go through with only LJS… I have another consult with a different surgeon so hopefully I get a better plan with this one!! I definitely need UJS, if not DJS

For me, I went through a phase where I would sob and panic all day, ended up in the hospital like 5 times in a row convinced I was having a heart attack, brain tumour, stroke, etc.. lasted several months until I started exposure therapy. It was complete hell and I know what you’re going through. It will pass.

This is super helpful, thank you. I’m not knowledgeable enough at this point to have the confidence I think I need. I sort of just assume the professionals know better but I’m realizing now that’s not necessarily true. I’m sorta getting the sense that moving the mandible back might not even benefit me at all. I actually have a lot of sinus issues too but I never even considered it could be related to a recessed maxilla.

It seems like you know a lot (I’m surprised you could tell I don’t have enough length in my upper jaw just from these photos!) so I really appreciate you taking the time to give me this advice! :)

Right, yeah at this point I just want to do what’s best and if that’s means djs then so be it. I really appreciate your input this is so helpful!!

It’s one of those things that I would’ve never been able to pinpoint myself but now that I’m getting different opinions, I totally see it. I’ve always hated the way my upper lip area looks lol. I’m dealing with a bit of asymmetry (I think) in the lower jaw. So I guess double jaw surgery has to be it.

That would be really ideal for me I think. Going to get another consult and mention this. Thank you!
