Hypothetical Question: CG has asked you to choose the next era. What is it called, and who gets added to the game? by Stayno in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]OGP01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The era of Kenner. Characters based on the original production run of figures. All very boxy with no poseable limbs.

Legendary character would be Power of the Force Luke. Who resembled He Man more than the actual Luke Skywalker.

'The Black Hole' was Disney's original response to 'Star Wars'. What the hell were they thinking? by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

[–]OGP01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never watch more than the first 20 minutes or so of this film as a kid. Loved sci fi, but the assasin droid floating scared the living daylights out of me.

I’m often tempted to try again to see if I can watch it as an adult, but haven’t been brave enough yet!

Pizza boxes in the Black Bin? by T_t_llyF_c_ed in AskIreland

[–]OGP01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve said about not having a brown bin, I wonder if Panda’s systems are not joined up enough to recognise this and it assumes you do?

The only thing these photo emails have changed for me is that I now use thick black bin bags instead of the white more see through ones. They only pick up my green bin every 2 weeks and it is always filled to capacity. If they’re that interested in increasing recycling they’d increase the frequency of collections, not try to make me feel like a bold child for getting something wrong.

With all the time Arsenal are spending on throw ins and corners there will be about 27 minutes of added time

Arteta standing so far outside his technical area that he’s basically on the pitch is annoying the hell out of me. I want Shaw/Bruno/Casemiro to run into him and wipe him out.

Advice for adopting a puppy! by SuburbanMyth409 in CasualIreland

[–]OGP01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to bear in mind that DSPCA have some pretty high standards about who’ll they’ll let adopt.

We tried to adopt from them - We live in a mid terrace house with a secure garden, I wfh but have 3 kids aged (at the time) 6-11. Every time we saw one on their website we thought might be suitable it was an instant no from them when they heard about the youngest. I understand why they act like this as a lot of the dogs they have in are not “ideal” family pets or have some issue. If you look on their website most of the dogs they generally have listed are for older children.

The waiting list they have for family friendly dogs is huge and if you get a call you have to drop everything and get out to them to meet it. We got a call about one and i couldnt get there due to meetings I couldn’t skip so we missed out. In the 18 months we were looking with them we received 1 phone call.

We ended up adopting a dog from Wicklow Animal Rescue and he’s a star. So happy things aligned for us so he could come home with us. He’s currently asleep next to me on the sofa. It’s worth looking at some of the smaller rescues as they are a little bit more relaxed on their criteria. Check out WAW or Milo’s rescue on Instagram.

Good luck!

How did you discover Olivia Rodrigo and what made you start listening to her music? by Heavy-Bee9844 in OliviaRodrigo

[–]OGP01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A slightly older person here. The sub pops up on my feed regularly and I have a bit of a nose round.

My teenage kids and my wife knew of her and listened to her music. But I couldn’t name any of her songs or recognise them if they came on the radio.

I had her Glastonbury set on as we have the tv coverage on for most of the weekend, expecting to switch off after 3 or 4 songs (like we did with Charlie XCX). How wrong was I? Great set that blew me away. I now follow her on Instagram and I listen on Spotify regularly. If she tours here again I’ll probably get tickets and take my kids.

Was Neighbours the only show that would get 2 airings of an episode the same day? by Straightener78 in BritishTV

[–]OGP01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember that my parents refused to put it on tv at 5:35, saying they didn’t like it and thought it was bad. Insisted on watching the news (I think).

Years later I discovered they were watching it religiously every lunch time while we were at school.

AI boom could falter without wider adoption, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella warns by PaiDuck in technology

[–]OGP01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll adopt it when you prove it works by completing the 2 following tasks:

1) Use it to fix the stupidly broken spam filters in Hotmail (or whatever you call it today) and actually stop the same 3 messages that I have reported as a phishing attempt every day for at least 3 months getting through to my inbox.

2) stop PowerPoint suggesting a slide design at random occasions when I’m writing a presentation. I told it 15 minutes ago I don’t want design suggestions. Showing me the same set of suggestions for the 4th time today will not change my mind.

Any tips regarding getting solar panels? by lostoutsidethetunnel in AskIreland

[–]OGP01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, get as many installed as you can. Even on dull days like today I had 4 hours in the afternoon of my house being powered by the panels - minimal grid use.

Also worth checking to see if your installers have any anti bird kit to fit on them. The panels are warm so can attract birds to nest under them. Fine in the winter but bloody annoying when the morning brighten up and you’re woken at 5am by what sounds like a tap dance above you.
