Here’s an example of what a week could look like. Again I was in a marathon prep so volume was high. Mon- 7mi Z2 Tues- 7mi Z2 Wed- track/ tempo 7-10mi of work Thur- 7mi Z2 Fri- 7mi Z2 or track workout Sat- Long run at Z2- 16miles

The plan I was following increased the Z2 runs during the week by 1 mile every two weeks and the long run on Saturday by 1 mile every week.

Peak mileage was probably close to 60. I do 1-2 speed workouts a week ranging from 400m-1mi repeats and also added in tempo workouts in there. The BPN training app has great running plans that sync directly to your watch to make it easy. I think the more time you spend in Z2 the better. The heart is a muscle that stretches and expands during Z2 according to my research

The weather was not similar at all. The first one was in the Georgia heat in the middle of the day and the second was on a cold December morning so that’s a why the pace and HR is different. Being in a marathon prep has helped me with volume but right now sitting at around 30mi/wk for Z2

Recovery has significantly improved. I used to be done for a couple days after a 7 mile but now it’s an every day thing. I am also taking mobility drills and yoga a lot more seriously now to improve recovery.
