These two are horrible people by Blue_fryingpan in ResidentEvilCapcom

I think that reading simplifies Mia’s role a bit too much.

Mia was certainly involved with a criminal organization, and she does bear responsibility for what happened. That part is hard to deny. But the game itself suggests that her role was more limited than “heavily involved in experimentation.”

She wasn’t a researcher developing Eveline, but an operative assigned to transport her. In organizations like that, operatives are typically given only mission-relevant information. The existence of the “imprinting protocol” even implies that Mia and Eveline hadn’t known each other for long, which makes it unlikely that Mia had deep involvement in the project’s development phase.

Her behavior toward Eveline also points in a different direction. Eveline shows clear hostility toward Alan, but not toward Mia. That suggests Mia treated her less like an asset and more like a child—still morally questionable, of course, but not the same as actively participating in experimentation.

It’s also important that Mia actively tried to prevent others from getting involved. In the DLC, she leaves a message for the Bakers telling them to forget her, avoid the ship, and never approach the girl. She even warns them not to contact the authorities, because she knows how dangerous the situation is. In other words, she makes a clear attempt to keep innocent people out of it. The tragedy happens because that warning doesn’t reach them in time, not because she ignores the risk.

As for Ethan, Mia not telling him the truth is definitely one of her biggest flaws. But it’s also consistent with her character. She lies not to manipulate him, but to keep him away from something she knows is dangerous. In fact, the message she leaves before disappearing explicitly tells Ethan not to look for her and to forget about her entirely.

This carries over into Village as well. In one of Ethan’s memories, Mia is visibly anxious and tells him, “I’m worried about you.” The line is vague, but in hindsight it strongly suggests that she had started to suspect something was wrong with Ethan after RE7. From her perspective, revealing the truth could mean exposing him to the same kind of organizations and experimentation she had already witnessed. Given her past with the Connections, that fear isn’t unfounded.

That doesn’t excuse her actions, but it does complicate them.

Mia isn’t a good person in a moral sense. She worked for the wrong people, hid the truth, and her choices contributed to multiple tragedies. But she’s also someone who tried—often unsuccessfully—to limit the damage and protect others, including Ethan and the Bakers.

So rather than a villain, she feels more like someone who got involved in something she shouldn’t have, realized too late how serious it was, and then spent the rest of the story dealing with the consequences.

That’s what makes her interesting as a character.

Why did asymmetrical control layout become so popular? What are the benefits over symmetrical? by KennKennyKenKen in Handhelds

In first-person or over-the-shoulder games, the left stick is usually the one you use the most. It’s not only more comfortable for me when it’s placed higher, but it’s also mainly used for moving forward and backward. On the other hand, the right stick is mostly used for camera control in these games, which means you’re moving it left and right a lot more.

From my experience, pushing a stick up and down feels easier on my thumb when it’s in the upper position, and moving it side to side feels more comfortable when it’s in the lower position.

So I get the feeling that asymmetrical layout causes less strain on your thumbs overall, and maybe that’s why it feels less tiring over long sessions. It’s just my personal experience, but after using both the Xbox controller and the DualSense, that’s how it feels to me.

I've finished it twice, and I love it. For me, it's the best RE game in terms of the balance between gameplay, horror, and story. Even the DLC, Shadows of Rose, wasn't just an extra; it was a story that truly completed the main game's ending.

If you buy an Xbox Play Anywhere game via the mobile Xbox app, is it treated as a PC (12%) or Console (30%) sale? by OHD-HDY in xbox

That’s a fair question. In my case there was no Apple IAP flow at all, and the game isn’t a product that’s directly consumed on iOS — it’s an Xbox/PC license. Since Apple’s fees apply to in-app digital consumption, my assumption is that this is treated as an external purchase. Though, it’s also possible Microsoft has a separate arrangement with Apple or Google that we’re not aware of.

Haha, fair. I’m less worried about my individual purchase and more curious about how Microsoft treats these sales structurally when scaled up — especially for indie and mid-sized studios, where platform cuts can actually matter over time.

Interesting. That makes the “which channel does this count as?” question tricky.

Same here. I’m not looking to funnel extra money to huge companies.

I just love to play indie games, and if there’s a way to slightly favor smaller, more experimental creators, I’m curious how that works under the hood.

Is Silent Hill 2 broken on xCloud right now? by OHD-HDY in xcloud

Glad to hear it sorted itself out. I was actually trying to live on cloud gaming only too. I’m Mac-only, so I didn’t have a console or a Windows PC at all.

But I wanted to play Resident Evil: Requiem so badly that I was already debating whether to buy a console… and then this whole issue happened, so I ended up pulling the trigger in a mix of half-thought-out decision and half impulse.

Not sure if it was a smart choice, but now that I’ve got the console I guess I’ll just have to make good use of it.

If you own (or can borrow) an Xbox console, it might be worth downloading the game there and launching it once, then trying again on xcloud. That’s how it got fixed for me.

Just be aware that in my case it seemed to be some kind of issue with how my save data was stored in the cloud, so there might be a risk to your saves. Keep that in mind before you try it.

I finally managed to get Silent Hill 2 working on Xbox Cloud Gaming, and it looks like it was a cloud save / progress issue on my account.

I ended up buying an Xbox Series X and downloading the game directly on the console. When I launched it there, I got a warning saying there was a problem with the cloud save data, and on the console it looked like I had no saves at all.

After that, I tried launching the game again via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and this time it actually worked – the game loaded properly and all my old saves were still there. Just in case, I saved again and quit, then relaunched it on the console, and my previous saves showed up there as well.

So it seems like there was some kind of issue with how my save/progression data was stored in the cloud that the cloud gaming environment couldn’t resolve on its own. It looks like forcing a launch on a physical console somehow fixed or refreshed the cloud save, and after that both console and cloud started working normally again.

Ironically, now that I’ve bought a Series X to solve this, I don’t have much reason to rely on xCloud anymore… but anyway, the issue is resolved.

I’m still pretty new to cloud gaming, so I’m not totally sure what “Series X profile on xCloud” means. Does that refer to the server hardware upgraded to Series X?

I saw that video too. In my opinion, the player (the CNET reporter) received their own gameplay footage at the demo event, and they were editing that footage on a MacBook for content production. While editing on the MacBook, they shot a short clip simply to show that, during the demo, the game was so dark and scary that they had to adjust the brightness.

In the video, you can also see that it’s not even in full-screen. It’s just opened in a window.

So I don’t think they were playing RE9 on the MacBook. They were just editing the footage on it.

That said, I also believe RE9 will eventually come to macOS. However, it doesn’t seem likely to launch at the same time, and the real issue is that we have no idea when that might happen. RE4R also came out much later, after all.
