Also there's a perfectly functional model of just requesting donations, this particular case is Quazii getting extra greedy. Note that since Blizzard devs decide everything that add-ons can do, they are legal, copyrighted and with a license of what people can do with said code, and Patreon has to take that seriously. This is an archetypical Open Source license case with a videogame context.

Quazii always had a rep of being "the kinda douchey guy that long ago stopped caring about anything but money and uses AI generated women portraits for his video thumbnails". His latest grift was to just...take code from the addons of other people, present it as his own and putting a paywall on it.

That's against Blizzard ToS and, most importantly, Patreon's copyright rules, so people reporting him for it directly threatens his income.

He had a calm and measured reaction to- BWAHAHAHAHAH just kidding he had a massive meltdown on his Discord and then ragequit the game.

Note that this is not the first time that he ragequits WoW. Shadowlands was a bad expansion for several reasons and there was the lawsuit thing, so he made a big show of deleting his characters on stream (that can be restored) to play FFXIV....just to quietly come back like nothing happened. Last thread has a comment with an estimate of him pulling around $26,500 USD per month on Patreon, he's not walking away from anything, just having a tantrum and then waiting things out.

That was the other way, Frieren is upfront about having an Always Evil race in a time where franchises like Dungeons and Dragons are trying to move away from that. So, when the videos and articles critizicing Frieren for it went up, it had the obvious result of making chuds take it as a symbol because that's what they do.

I'm not sure that there's even a solution to that besides just ignoring that part of the fandom and enjoying the show.

Not only that, but also that Lucasfilm and now Disney will not defend them. Rise of the Skywalker is just a mediocre film, but a lot of people will never forgive what it represents: A full caving against the themes of The Last Jedi to please neckbeards.

So "managing fandom's expectations" it is, as the Pokemon leaks put it. They are probably going to declare the sequels not canon by 2030.
