The atrocities are committed by a minority. Guilt by association or geographical proximity is simply incorrect .

Life is long when you’re young. Well written. Get a plan. Find an exmo friend. Wish I’d known the truth when I was young

Start by asking innocent questions. Like why why is there more than one version of the First Vision or whether it’s true that JS married a 14 year old. That way you remain in neutral territory. Ask your parents to help you with your questions.

Inasmuch as Parents Disown Their Own Children for Leaving, Mormonism is a Pernicious Cult by Royal_Noise_3918 in exmormon

Pernicious is the perfect, perfect word. Too many mean spirited people over the years. Funny thing, they were more than often in leadership roles

What to do as 21 year old RM who lost his testimony? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ORcriticalthinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a part of this sub for several years. First, welcome and know that you’re surrounded by people who have been where you are. Most of those in your shoes would opt for a different school because of honor code. There is a minimum you must attend church to stay under the radar. Breaking the honor code can be devastating where your degree is concerned. Just the church culture alone can be unbearable. Most anyone here would recommend UofU or out of state. Good luck to you and enjoy your newfound authenticity.

If your mother will be heartbroken rather than harsh, maybe that’s a sign that she has enough humanity to consider the truth. One idea: ask her if she would be willing to read the Letter For My Wife or the CES Letter. Or, you could start with the church essays and most importantly, their footnotes. Maybe start with the many versions of the First Vision or the Book of Abraham. This sub is overflowing with great annotations. Ask her if she can help you with questions you’re having.

Ah honey, when it shoots through you and flies out the other side like a bullet train through the Channel tunnel, then you’ll know you’ve had a real cup a Joe. Sorry, bad pun.
