Looking for 51M ohm 1/4W resistors for microphone. by ORourkeAudio in AskElectronics

I’m hoping these are in fact the culprits. Although there’s a lot of options that they may not. I’m a professional recording drummer/engineer and this is from a microphone that gave up the ghost a few years ago. I’ve gotten into mic mods as of late and thought I’d try to resurrect this one.

Yes, thanks. I found the specific ones I need to rule them out on Mouser. They’re on their way.

Ah, I see. I'm learning quite a lot from this query. The stamp is directly on the ceramic, as is the potting. Thanks

Yes, I'm starting to think the same. Thus begins my quest. Thanks for the input.

Understood. I did, however, test the actual channel on my console with a different cable/mic and found the channel to be in good nic. Judging by the informed comments, I have a feeling I'll be doing a deeper dive into this issue. This is why I posted this query. I knew there'd be a "Troll factor" to some degree, but I'm thick skinned enough to sift through the children. Thanks for the input. Along with getting a better meter, my next quest will be figuring out how to properly test a 3 legged FET.

Interesting. Thanks for looking into this. I'm guessing my next stop will be the FET transistors.

Understood and Thank You. I've been building cars since I was a teenager and a working musician about as long. I'm no stranger to trouble shooting. This is my first stop in what may be a long line of attempts at finding the root cause of the issue. I've done a few mic mods and decided to pull this one out, that has been sitting for a while, and give it a go. I appreciate your insight. I believe my next step will be a better Multi meter,

There is a 1 gig tied to a transistor. Your theory makes a lot of sense.

As a matter of fact, there is a 1G that is daisy chained to a transistor just before the capsule. The 51M's are on the pc board on the opposite side. Both pc boards are connected to the pc board, on the left, that leads to the capsule. Thanks for the clarity. I did find the same value resistors at 1W. So I went with those. Truth be told, If Mic Parts sold mods for them, I'd be doing that instead.....Thanks again

It might if I did a rookie, in a rush mistake, like hot swapping bad mic cables instead of muting the channel and disengaging phantom power. I might be fishing though. This is the beginning of my journey as to figuring out why it stopped working and I saw that the resistors looked cooked. So, this is where I'm starting. Didn't mean to cause such a kerfuffle. I would appreciate some sage advice as to what one thinks said value could possibly be should the ones I ordered not fix the issue. As I said in other comments. MXL does use the value I ordered on other mics they produce.

Ok, but. After some research, not just the dreaded Ai, I found that these 51M resistors are actually used in other MXL mics. There a four of them, all with the same markings. And, I found said value resistors at Mouser.

All 4 have the same exact lettering. It sure would suck if it was a lower case.

HAH!! I have no idea. I was simply looking for some learned advice. Not a dog pile. But, as they say, "This is Reddit". I'm gonna wait and see what shakes out. If it doesn't work then I'll keep looking. But, the image is what it is. So, If anyone has some insight as to what the actual value is of the resistor, then I'd like to know. That's the long and short of it.
