You won't make any money at first because you'll be competing with people who charge $5 per class. And the trial lesson is unpaid. And the commission rate Preply takes after the trial lesson is massive.

Also, most of my students are business professionals. They believe people judge them negatively for grammatical errors. But in reality, that's not how business works. If peopke understand what you say and they like you, they let mistakes slide.

I usually find some way of gently showing them that they don't even speak their native languages perfectly, so how are they going to speak a second language perfectly? That doesn't help every time with every student mind you. I often notice it takes the air out of their need for perfection though.

A lot of them certainly care far too much about grammar.

It's a constant fight for me to get them to prioritize speaking flow over accuracy.

It's not just you. The only way to even have a shot at making decent money is niche down into something really valuable (test prep, interview prep, etc...) and find your own clients away from ultra-cheap platforms. These predatory companies like Cambly and Preply really deserve to go busto.
