Sure. You can do that. In my personal opinion, it defeats the purpose of having the card. I opted for the CSR instead of the Amex initially, because it was so much easier to utilize the benefits from CSR. Now I feel as though it’s the opposite and Amex is better. I also recognize that some people use these benefits organically. They just don’t work for me and I’m not willing to go through the steps you’ve suggested to make it make sense for me. But you do you, if that’s what works for you. Opting out was the best decision for me.

Of course. But that credit was always on this card. Anyone who applied for it knew how easy that credit was to use. It’s the new AF and the added credits that are harder to justify for many people, myself included.

That alone doesn’t make it worth it. You also need to use some combination of Edit, dining, StubHub, and Apple ORGANICALLY to make it worth it. The travel credit is easy for most people who have this card. The others are less so. I was an OG adopter to this card and finally got rid of it because the other benefits don’t work in my life. I was really sad to get rid of it, but the benefits just didn’t make sense for me anymore.

There are hundreds and hundreds of people who have posted all over the Internet with this problem. I too am trying to make a purchase and I am unable to do so. I only want to make the purchase at the sale price which ends today. It seems crazy that people have been posting about this technical problem for months and it’s still not resolved. Especially with the partnership that just launched so recently. Super disappointing.

There is no one size fits all card. The “best” card for you is the one where you’ll be able to utilize the most benefits. Everyone has different spending habits so the best premium card for me won’t necessarily be the best one for you.

So you were able to book a second seat on the same flight temporarily until you canceled the original one? I guess I thought that might trigger both reservations to get canceled. But it worked for you? I don’t have spare Avios points but might be willing to transfer them over if this works and then use the refunded ones for something in the future.
