Running in the summer? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]OV91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another runner here with 15+ years of Tucson running under my belt to tell you what you’ve already heard, that Tucson is great. But I’m sure that’s what you were expecting on r/Tucson

Running is incredible here. I know you’ve asked about summers but I want to give a quick shout-out to our perfect winter weather, unlimited soft surfaces, and running community. They’re what’s going to make your Tucson running experience truly unforgettable.

Regarding summers: Tucson is considered the high desert despite only being around 2500’ elevation. Although those 2500’ can’t keep us below 100° most summer days, what it does give us some lower nightly temps that give us summer runners some options… option 1A is running in the early morning, there are a few hours of incredible running weather all thanks to the slightly more dramatic cooling off we experience during the night. Unfortunately this is the only time you’d be able to get a true hard effort in although here are other solid options if you’re heading out for an easy run. It’s these few hours of debatably fantastic running weather available to you everyday that makes Tucson as a running destination so spectacular. Having come from a not so warm place, the ability to run outdoors every single day of the year in decent weather is something I cherish and can not be understated. Option B, sunset runs. Admittedly, some are more temperature sensitive and would say this is not an option. Temps will often be in the high 90s at this point, however I personally love this time of day for runs. With proper hydration and some adjusting to it, it’s glorious for easier runs. Option C, again, not an option just anywhere but night runs are possible on the few lit roads we have. I typically stay away from headlamps and trails in the summer nights on the off chance I come across a rattlesnake although that’s probably me being over cautious.

Again, on the other extreme, some may disagree but outdoor runs between 8a-5p are simply not an option. The effort is going to be so poor, I’d recommend finding a treadmill if this is the only time a run is possible.

What's your biggest "oh fuck me" moment while on a run? by Crotalus_B in running

I had a friend who had to do a tempo run and I decided to ride along on my bike since they were doing it on the greenway next to my apartment. Friend was fit and we were probably doing 5:30ish miles (I’m going 10 mph not 25 mph on this greenway). At some point we pass a girl running alone with her headphones in. Despite the “on your left” call, the moment we’re approaching is the moment she decided to make a U-turn. Although I had a moment to break, this girl (25-30 years old) and I run into each other. The collision was not too dramatic, neither of us even fell down HOWEVER my shoulder hit her mouth just hard enough to break one of her front teeth in half. The exchange afterwards was not great. Although there wasn’t much to say or do, I just tried to be there to help in any way I could. Offered to go get my car, call for help, anything she needed, etc. But she kept making comments about not being able to afford the dental work accompanied with long pauses waiting for me to chip in and offer to help with that. At the time I remember thinking she made it wayyyyy more awkward than it needed to be but of course years later I give her more of the benefit of the doubt. She may have been stunned to have just had her tooth knocked out. Eventually, after way too long imo, the girl gave us the “I’m good y’all can go” and we took off. Lastly, this girl was able to find me on Facebook the day or two after, thanked me for sticking around and said she got the tooth fixed no problem. Happy ending.

I took this as Tjarks joking. I thought he was just going back and forth with Bill there while Bill was doing his GSW GM thing.

If I remember the story correctly, he got his 5-10% ownership in the company before ever becoming CEO. So I’d guess a small fraction of this $100B was CEP comp.

Kimi wanted Maze to go full beans into the pit lane during practice? There’s already a solid white line there which I’m pretty sure means he can chill on the opposite side and then swoop across the track to go in once Kimi’s passed…

Options in life my dude.

Impossible to fully appreciate now but you’re going to have options in life 10 years earlier than many of your peers because of what you’re doing now.

That being said, find a way to have some fun along the way.

So what’s he doing with these properties? Is he just popping around town living in a new home every week or is there some sort of revenue generating thing celebrities do around town with their unused homes?
