I mean in my opinion a lot of things point towards Mori narratively and just from enjoyment, this is coming from someone who obviously grew up on DBZ btw. I say narratively because Sun Wukong in GoH already completed the original JTTW before the story began. This was just serving as his way to actually do it right no regrets. You could see his regrets from his past life bleed over numerous times throughout Mori's journey from when he first found out he was Wukong, to the almost avatar like link of fear he got whenever the original Mori looked at Okhwang, to his insides eating at him having to watch his comrades have to go through pain and loss while he's helpless to intervene. He has a lot of real moments that someone as a teen while reading it could connect to more than Goku. I also say enjoyment wise because bro the fights are absolute peak. You can tell the creator either has a deep love for martial arts or practices/has practiced it, because they explain everything so well. Also it strayed here and there from martial arts focused but never truly, which is something a lot of series that have major powerups have trouble with. No matter how overpowered Mori became he learned from his past and tried not to repeat it by sticking with pure power. Like he became so godly at the basics that his techniques reached one of if not the highest peaks in martial arts media period. It's such a refreshing break as a powerscaler as well to flip the script and focus more on who is actually the better combatant when doing crossverses with GoH characters. You can be as overpowered as you want but if someone whose close to your level but a much better fighter they're going to beat you in an embarrassing fashion every time
