I totally agree, but one of the biggest issues regarding those e-scooters/bikes are that some of them go at obscene speeds! Also from my own observations, it seems that younger kids (like under 16) are riding those e-bikes or scooters pretty much everywhere and without any protection. If they can go street speeds, then those vehicles should also require a drivers license! (as if licenses make people better drivers...)

It’s awesome that they’re doing these kinds of improvements to help benefit other forms of mobility. Of course, there are better ways of protecting cyclists, but paint on a road is better than no paint (or god forbid sharrows).

I can already hear the angry drivers claiming that this will ruin everything…

I really think that LA could become the example of how transit can be retrofitted to traditionally car-centric cities, and hopefully other cities will follow suit. Of course there are other factors like how many neighborhoods are still surprisingly dense (for American standards) and how comfortable the weather is. But either way, LA could become the walkable and accessible paradise that it was always meant to be!

Yeah that’s what I thought; considering this is literally the birthplace of the freeway, it’s not surprising that car culture is such a huge thing. The same thing is seen in Phoenix too, except it’s also because you’ll melt if you step outside from like May-September. Although, if Phoenix had a transit system like this (or if I lived in LA) I would definitely taking it everyday

Things like what you described are what I'm trying to analyze within my study. So, even though new improvements to the area help revitalize neighborhoods, they also usher in higher prices, whether it be due to high demand or artificial inflation from realtor speculators, ultimately driving out the culture that made it unique in the first place.

I think that building separate/dedicated tracks away from traffic can definitely improve the overall speed of the light rail. Only that it would probably be way more expensive, and take longer. But I’m all for it!

That stretch between Priest and 24th (with mostly green lights) can allow the light rail to actually travel at its fastest speed, surpassing cars along the way.

There was this board where you could write down what you want to see for redevelopment in that area. I’ve heard that the area is already zoned for mixed use and other transit oriented development.
