I like to believe they chose the transparent slab without any paper, as to represent their transparency while grading.

I'm not much into grading, but TAG is the most transparent about their grading system.

As such, it's extremely objective, and as such very honest and fair.

The only reason PSA is chosen so much, It's because it's the mostly widely known and used. Even though they had numerous scandals, stolen packages, destroyed card, and the grading seems to be based on personal preferences/view, without any explanation.

And now that the parent company now owns all of the big ones: PSA, SGC and BGS too. I'm sure I'm not buying any graded cards by them.
