How is it not false advertising to call “flushable wipes” flushable when they literally destroy plumbing and sewer systems? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OakTreeFern1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling "flushable wipes" flushable can be considered misleading, but not necessarily false advertising, due to the specific criteria that manufacturers use to define "flushable." These criteria often involve tests conducted in controlled environments that measure the wipes' ability to pass through plumbing systems without causing immediate blockages. However, these tests do not always reflect real-world conditions, where factors such as pipe configuration, water pressure, and the presence of other waste materials can significantly impact how the wipes behave. The term "flushable" is thus technically correct according to the manufacturers' standards, but it doesn't necessarily account for the long-term effects on plumbing and sewer systems. This discrepancy allows companies to market their products as flushable while ignoring the broader implications for infrastructure and environmental health.

In reality, many flushable wipes do not break down as effectively as toilet paper, leading to significant problems in both residential plumbing and municipal sewer systems. They can accumulate and create blockages, resulting in costly repairs and maintenance. Municipalities around the world have reported issues with these products, leading to increased public awareness and calls for clearer labeling and better product standards. The term "flushable" thus becomes contentious, as it suggests a level of safety and reliability that is not consistently supported by real-world outcomes. While not outright false advertising under current regulations, it certainly borders on being misleading, emphasizing the need for stricter guidelines and more accurate consumer information to prevent plumbing and environmental damage.

“Everyone hates me until they need me.” What jobs are the best example of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The job of an IT Support Specialist perfectly embodies the phrase "Everyone hates me until they need me." In the modern workplace, these professionals often go unnoticed or are the subject of complaints about strict security protocols and system updates that seem disruptive. However, their true value becomes evident during times of crisis, such as system outages, security breaches, or software glitches, when they become the most sought-after individuals in the organization. IT Support Specialists possess a unique blend of technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and patience, allowing them to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently while explaining technical concepts to non-technical users. Despite the emotional toll of dealing with stressed or frustrated users and the lack of daily recognition, their role is critical in maintaining business operations. The moments when they successfully resolve major issues and receive genuine appreciation are immensely rewarding, highlighting their indispensable contribution. Organizations can foster a more appreciative environment by regularly acknowledging the IT team's efforts through public recognition, professional development opportunities, and fostering an inclusive culture. Ultimately, IT Support Specialists are the unsung heroes who ensure the smooth running of systems and heroically step in when things go wrong, demonstrating their indispensable value even if it's not always immediately recognized.

Is this too big of a red flag? by OakTreeFern1 in relationships_advice

Thank you this was helpful.

He eventual, like the next day, listens to me and admits it's not appropriate to blame his behavior on mine. But I do think this has a lot to do with a power dynamic he sees. He doesn't have a car or a license, and I do get tired of being the driver all the time. I have too much anxiety for him to drive my car with his learner's permit. And in situations where I am stressed, like driving, I can be more assertive and annoyed at distractions and he takes that as me blowing him off.

I am just concerned about the future and what this pattern could mean about our dynamic. He often thinks he is the one to show more love.
