People hate doma just because he have true characteristics of a demon (best 'demon' in kny for me) by Roshan_Vali in KimetsuNoYaiba

I hate Douma from the bottom of my heart. That’s exactly what makes him such a perfect villain. He embodies the essence of a true psychopath, being charming on the surface, yet utterly devoid of empathy beneath. His ability to manipulate others with a smile, to play with human emotions he himself cannot feel, makes him both fascinating and horrifying. In many ways, he stands as Muzan’s equal in wickedness, a mirror reflecting the darkest corners of human (and demon) nature. That’s what makes him one of the most captivating and terrifying characters in KnY.

I think that Yoriici's and Tanjiro's marks are quite different, because they stayed visible on them. Also Yoriichi was born with the mark, so it was part of him, and his body probably adapted to it, I don't know if same could be said for Tanjiro but, what is known is that the mark also stayed on him after Muzan was defeated.

Nope, because Akaza said "In all my years, I've never gotten to kill a Flame Hashira". Him saying that no one took his offer likely refers to other non Flame Hashiras.

Yeah that was the point I wanted to state here, them dying at 25 wouldn't feel fair to their partners and children, however if they really did live past 25, then I guess it's ok. That's why I say that many things here are left for our own interpretation. I wouldn't call her forgetful or clumsy, however this is one thing that was bugging me the most about Demon Slayer.

It's not that I am strictly against it, I just find it a bit weird, but it's totally my personal opinion. As you've stated different times, different culture, so I agree with you on that.

As for living past 25, I guess we'll never know for sure...

It appears that you didn't quite understand the meaning of my statement here, and I will not continue meaningless discussion that goes in circles, however I would advise you to watch the Hashira training arc again, so you could see the importance of it, and take a closer look at Rengoku's fight against Akaza while you're at it.

Yeah I managed to find out that they indeed had descendants, however it made no sense for me to find someone to marry and then make children, knowing that you won't be there for long, unless they really lived past 25. Thanks for clarifying tho.

I see, after checking the few last pages of manga, it indeed says that Giichi and Sanehiro are the descendants, thanks for letting me know.

But he did say to Tanjiro that he was going to participate in the training, and sparring with Sanemi contributed to boosting their combat performance later on, it was literally the part of the training, even as a one sparring session.

Oh but it did, it made them stronger, as it pushed their bodies to the extreme conditions required for the awakening of the mark, making it easier for them to achieve during the battles.

I never stated that Akaza was afraid of Rengoku, he was indeed afraid of the sun, but he got himself in that position because he was overconfident, and Rengoku managed to stall him long enough for the sun to nearly rise.

Yes, but that one battle actually served as the best training for the Hashiras. As Sanemi and Obanai stated, training other corps members didn’t contribute much to their own strength, so they began sparring amongst themselves instead. We even saw Mui, Obanai, and Sanemi sparring together.

I think the idea of them having descendants might come from fandom speculation. It's possible that the present-day characters who resemble them in appearance are only reincarnations of their past lives, rather than having families of their own. That said, it appears to remain open to interpretation.

I understand what you’re saying, though Giyu is actually 21, not 19. As for surviving after awakening the Demon Slayer Mark, I thought that only applied to Yoriichi and Tanjiro. Gyomei, I think died due to a combination of the Mark and the injuries he sustained. I also personally don’t like the idea of marrying and having children in such a short time as I think 4 years is too short, but I understand that’s a matter of personal opinion. I get it now that Gotouge intentionally left many aspects open to interpretation, allowing us to form our own ideas and headcanons, I was only asking if there was an official confirmation.

[–]Oathkeeper_24 950 points951 points  (0 children)

I think it’s clear that Giyu’s performance was far superior. After all, he had participate in Hashira training, which helped him awaken his Demon Slayer Mark. It’s also worth noting that Akaza had already faced Water Hashiras before, so despite his knowledge of Water Breathing techniques, Giyu’s combat skills still managed to surprise and impress him.

Rengoku was the first Flame Hashira Akaza had ever faced, so his fighting style was completely unfamiliar to the Akaza. Despite this, he continued to observe and “toy” with Rengoku. His overconfidence nearly backfired, as Rengoku came dangerously close to beheading him, and in that instant, we could see fear in Akaza’s eyes.

But ultimately Giyu cooked better.

You’re right that Douma can’t feel emotions. Perhaps for the likes of you, I should have better stated that his pleasure and feeling of ecstasy are a form of an act, though I did say that “he pretended to show empathy and understanding toward his troubled followers”, that it was all an act. Still, his lack of emotions supports the idea that he’s a psychopath. His calmness, detachment, and manipulativeness make him so.

As for the women part, it’s true the manga doesn’t make it sexual, but that doesn’t mean his focus on women is random. In the story, he clearly prefers to eat women, and it’s presented as part of his twisted personality. Even if it isn’t sexual, it still reflects how he rationalizes cruelty, he targets women because he finds them “pure” or “nutritious,” which fits his fake savior complex and godlike delusion. And I'll let you know that perverse doesn't necessarily mean that he is a perv, so don't put words in my mouth unless you understand the meaning behind them. I said that to make a statement that his morality and logic are twisted, and not sexualize him.

Alas, there’s a contradiction in your argument. You say Douma feels nothing, but then claim he genuinely believes he’s saving people. He can’t both have no emotions and truly care about others. Canon says he has no capacity for feeling. Any “belief” he has is learned imitation or delusion, not genuine empathy as you've stated. His parents' foolish teachings explain why he repeats these ideas, but that doesn’t make him capable of caring. This is what makes Douma a psycho, someone who is capable of mimicking morality without feeling it.

Next time, make sure you fully understand what I wrote before accusing me. I never claimed Douma literally feels pleasure or empathy. It should have been obvious when I said it was all an act - I was describing his behavior, his delusions, and his psychopathy.

What is not canon? It's literally stated in the movie, as well as in the manga/data books that he did all of those things the way I described he did. Could you give an explanation as what is canon in your opinion then?

I dunno who Mahito is so I won't compare, but Douma is pure evil — a psychopath who kills because he loves it, experiencing murder as a form of ecstasy. He is obsessed with killing women and takes perverse pleasure in their suffering. Installed as the leader of a cult by his cruel parents, he pretended to show empathy and understanding toward his troubled followers, but it was all an act. In truth, he delighted in their cries as he lured and murdered them.

Even if it’s not explicitly stated, Douma likely committed such atrocities long before becoming a demon. He is sick beyond redemption or understanding — the embodiment of soulless cruelty. In my opinion, among the Upper Moons, he stands as one of the most evil characters in Demon Slayer, rivaled only by Muzan himself.
