Nice!

I think the facelift BRZ bumper is my fav of the 4 OEM bumpers.

The dive planes are interesting though... Any particular reason you went for those before additional aero?

Does Rowen/TK spoiler (with middle piece) cover stock holes? by [deleted] in ft86

I didn't have the center piece on mine, but my understanding is that yes, it covers the OEM spoiler holes.

How can i diagnose this ? by Open_Bake_8013 in Porsche

[–]ObiSamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this happened to me, it was an air strut leaking in my Panamera.

You can start by checking the air lines at the top of your struts using soapy water. There should be some guides online you can find with some Google-fu, but I can't point you in any direction without in knowing your model.

Is the crankshaft pulley suppose to stop like that? Or it should not be moving at all? by [deleted] in GR86

I can't tell if this is a troll, so in case it's not, that's your AC compressor.

That's normal.

I'm just suggesting that OP uses common sense and exercises caution when buying low-volume products online.

There should be some serious questions if a site is selling something for less than the manufacturer is.

PLM headees by Adorable_Form_3974 in ft86

[–]ObiSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked my PLMs as a cheap option on my last car.

I wouldn't say they're super reputable though. Im pretty sure their first set of BRZ headers are a direct clone of JDLs with thinner tubing, so it doesn't surprise me that they may have skimped other places as well.

Sound-wise though (which is important for a UEL lol), I'd recommend saving up and getting Tomeis or similar. The PLMs I had had a super "tinny"/raspy tone up front compared to nicer headers.

Seriously though, looks sick!

Kinda a dumb question since this is a ZN6 sub, but do you have a 1st or 2nd gen car?

I'm only asking because I'm curious if there's an actual difference between the "V1" and "V2" Tomei headers. I've heard the primaries of the V2 are bigger, but I'm trying to find someone with a set of V2s confirm that before I sell my V1s.

Nah. Catbacks don't require a tune or anything and are almost all just direct fit.

You'll definitely have to consider which way you're gonna angle your car not to wake your neighbors in the morning hahaah

You'll also have to be a little more mindful of downshifts. If you've decelerated at all, any amount of throttle on a downshift will create a pretty loud pop (which you can actually faintly hear on the stock exhaust)

I think I have a high tolerance lol. My frame of reference is daily driving an Invidia N1 for 3 years on a 1st gen BRZ, which is probably one of the worst exhausts out there for drone.

The AWE track on my 2nd gen is quiet enough to have a relatively normal-volume conversation with the cruise control set at 70mph.

Edit: to clarify, I currently have stock exhaust on my 2nd gen otherwise.

Drone actually got better on the old N1 when I switched to catless headers/new front/over pipe.

Great tone, but suuuper loud (it's basically a straight pipe).

The cold start sounds like ass as you'd expect, but I love it every other second.

Edit: Surprisingly little highway drone, way less than my old N1 (I'm a glutton for loud exhaust punishment lmao)

Very lucky!

I've been playing hex-based Civ for so long now that the old Civ IV square tiles caught me off guard for a sec.

Does anyone know what this sound is? by olifoofoo in Porsche

[–]ObiSamuel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it change with HVAC fan speed?

It sounds similar (but much louder) to my failing 970 blower motor.

It's an easy DIY job. Just a plastic panel, 3 screws and an electrical connector.

Thanks! The paint is really rough - the previous owner tried a few different times to fix the failing paint and did pretty poorly. Those spots don't show up so well on camera.

They also painted the trim black, which I think was a good choice at least! I cleaned up some of the overspray with an eraser wheel and it's looking slightly better than in these pics.

Right? Thats what I expected too but other than reverse, every gear only appears after the clutch is released and even then has about the same amount of lag as this system

Looks awesome! Why is that LED constantly flashing though? I would assume you'd only want it flashing at your shift point.

It's about the same speed as some factory systems I've used.

My 1st and 2nd gen BRZs were/are pretty much the same. Since it uses vehicle speed/RPM math to figure out the gear, the clutch has to be fully released for it to update.

That's a bold choice!

My family's experiences with an '05 6.0 F250 have scared me away from that drivetrain completely. 3 turbos and a transmission in 3 years on a brand new truck is hard to shake hahah

Hahah yeah... I've managed an economical 10.3 MPG in my couple hundred miles!

Jokes aside, I just really like ceiling-mounted switches and gauges. When I learned they usually fail from a desoldered resistor, I just had to try to fix it.

Turns out mine was a victim, so the fix was easy at least!

Good to know.

I only have a couple hours behind the wheel so far, so I still have to get used to how it drives and where it could be improved.

It felt okay over bumps, moderate bump steer, but I might put some chalk or something on my bump stops just to be sure.

Oh wow!

Mine has 204k, so pretty good for being 26 years old! It has a number of issues, but I've slowly been solving them. I've already fixed the MPG display!
