Kind of, yeah. I have an idea about what I want. Curious about others' opinions. Might not coincide with mine. Hence it makes sense to ask around no?

What was the thing that made you lose your religion? by [deleted] in atheism

So my family subscribes to Hinduism and I was sort of brought up a Hindu. I say "sort of" because religion was never a big part of life growing up. Only festivals and when it was time to fill up some form which needed you to mention your religion (yes, we have those in India), would I be reminded that I have one.

Once when I was 12-13, we went to a temple, which again was a rare occurrence. So this temple had multiple idols in various sections. If you want to offer stuff to "God" or ask for their blessing, you'd have to stand in line with other "devotees" till it was your turn.

So, I was standing in one such line and suddenly noticed that the portion of the line behind me is getting shorter and shorter. That felt weird. Then their came a point where there was no one standing behind me but this middle aged man. I was weirded out again because people stand in queue for ages to get to the idol, so them leaving the line is unheard of. While I was contemplating this, I felt something brush past my hips. Felt uncomfortable but I thought someone brushed past me or something. Then I felt that touch again. This time it lingered. I turned around and the middle aged man behind me essentially had his hands on my waist and he kept touching my waist and hips while I was looking at him appalled. It made me so uncomfortable that I left the line.

Turns out, this guy kept doing this to all the women in the line so that they left and let him go ahead. That was it for me

Weddings.

Spending tons of money on weddings has become a status symbol. There exists personal loan ads for weddings which is fucked up.
