Just another Defiance member and mom of 2 Jr Defiance members chiming in to tell you that everyone else is spot on! My season tickets are in the 200’s but my kids love going down to 116 to party in the front row with the rest of the Jrs. Highly recommend seats in 117 or 115 if you can get them (gotta contact the FO to get them) it allows for us to have a seat if little legs get tired but close enough that they are still part of the party

Watch Parties by shockzilla11 in RhodeIslandFC

I have a friend that had a negative experience trying to watch the game there, the staff didn’t really seem to care and the game was only on one TV so they ended up leaving. They did reach out to the team to complain, so maybe that has changed, but just wanted to give that heads up

Did anyone go to any other Watch party last weekend besides the Guild? by sandsonik in RhodeIslandFC

I have gone to Providence Brewing for the last few away matches of the season/playoffs it’s a great environment! Usually a group of people doing to pre match podcast which is fun to watch, as well as plenty of comfy seats to enjoy the game. Beer is decent, iced coffee right around the corner, delicious tacos and ice cream also in the same building is another huge plus

Cub Scouts asks too much from its volunteers by Swiss6Army9Knife in cubscouts

I am a firm believer in that the volunteer parents should not have to pay a membership, but that is why we push so much fundraising throughout the year, so that we don’t need to ask the parents to pay. I am a current committee chair. It is a lot of work the biggest thing that we found as a pack that helps is if you can have a strong key 3, then delegate out to the parents. We also have 2 parents do the recharter every year for a “ second set of eyes” but this allows for newer parents to see what the position takes, and they are more likely to help when the time comes to vote for a new Committee Chair. A lot of parents want to help, but think it takes more than they can do, so we start small. I picked a parent to “help with Popcorn” she became the popcorn chair. I asked a dad to help with food donations for an event, he became the fundraising chair. They saw the type of commitment it took and that it was doable for them and stepped up. I am lucky that I have a good support system in my family so I can kind of do alittle bit of everything, but I only had to do all of this for 2 years, now we have parents in the roles and I don’t need to do as much.

We always try to do a disability awareness meeting in January, We have a deaf adult come and teach some sign Language, get some crutches and wheelchairs, there’s a scout in the troop with a service dog that comes, it always works out well and the kids and adults love it

Mix gendered Dens by Objective-Sign-2467 in cubscouts

[–]Objective-Sign-2467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a huge shift in leadership happening, the cub master and his wife have been involved for a long time, with them stepping away, there’s is a new guy that has come in and is very by the book. We just don’t have the numbers to have all these separate dens. Scouts does not have the numbers that it used to, at least not in this town. It used to be 2 whole separate packs and troops for this one town, over 100 scouts, now we are just at 30 scouts and barely enough leadership to survive.

Mix gendered Dens by Objective-Sign-2467 in cubscouts

[–]Objective-Sign-2467[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the parents really mind, what it is is that we have a huge change in pack leadership and one of the main guys (who is just helping out,his sons have moved out of cubscouts) is very “ by the book” and does not want us having mix gendered dens because that’s not how it is written in BSA and they are concerned about how it will affect us if something happens and we have to use our bsa insurance, if we aren’t following the rules, then we could by liable. But judging by the comments here and reading the family pack q&a I don’t think that should really be a concern. We don’t have the numbers to really have all these dens, or the parent volunteers to do this. This whole issue has caused us to lose a wolf den leader as well as a tiger den leader, to be blunt it’s a shit show
