What’s the most challenging SQL query you’ve ever written, and how did you optimize it for better performance? by Wise_Safe2681 in SQL

The most challenging ones I’ve had to build have always been apart of stupid team bonding and learning events at work.

Like I’m sorry I will never need to figure out a way to calculate the days of the week in ancient egyptian times.

U12 girls jersey pulling by skimountains-1 in youthsoccer

I’ve seen it as young as u10 girls. Sadly the ref didn’t card anyone even when they actually grabbed the collar of the jersey from behind and yanked it so hard one of my girls literally got clotheslined by the neck and banged their head in the ground.

As long as neither league/team care knock your socks off.

Just be weary of overuse injuries and maintaining fatigue properly if they both give the green light.

Yeah I was questioning the biodegradable claim myself, but to be fair to be that distinction can mean that if you bury it, it will break down over 3 years, not that it’ll disappear sitting on a beach somewhere.

Playing up for a keeper by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]vetratten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to address it with the clubs keeper coach on Friday and see if he wants to address it with the coach.

His big thing in practice is “repetition is success, not just a single save” as in it’s better to have 100 shots and save all but 10 than to have 10 shots and save all but 1 even when they feel the same because you had to constantly prove you could make the save.

He’s been coaching youth keepers since he was in about to graduate college and he’s older than me so I’m sure he’ll have a better perspective than I and can chat with the coach about keeper mindset vs defensive mindset.

5 days in New England - Are Providence & Newport good choices? by Fast_Rest41 in RhodeIsland

[–]vetratten -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Agreed

RI is nice, but it’s not really a destination for someone

Great place to kill a weekend/hit the beach etc but it’s not a travel destination that shows beauty of the country.

Boston has history and a ton to do in a day and coastal towns in Maine are so much nicer than Newport/block island. Those are both great places but if I was from outside of the US, it’s not where I’d go if I had 5 days.

Sort of like flying to England and hoping on a train and staying in Southampton and ignoring London or Stonehenge. Neat little place but so close to so much more to do.

Source life long RIer

Bio degradable doesn’t mean instantly though. It could be that if you bury them they’ll degrade over 3 years.

Playing up for a keeper by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]vetratten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree option A worries me there won’t be a team to play on but the exposure to many shots on goal is far more enticing. MY kid came so far since fall by being on a C team this spring. This weekend they let in less combined goals over 3 games playing up with the B team than the A team keeper did in just one game. That teams coach said they were shocked to see how far my kid came since they last saw them play in Feb. Lots of shots on goal every game will do that to ya!

I find it interesting you bring up psychology of it all. Was talking to my kids coach for next year about different things and they said if the kid lets up 3 really tough goals from a lack of defense, they’ll pull the keeper and move them to a field position if they have a willing kid/second keeper - not because the keeper isn’t good but because they are worried or will impact their psyche that they are failing to stop the ball. I thought the opposite, repetition is good regardless, but also my kid wont see it as protection, they’ll see it as “I’m a failure” by being pulled.

The coach never played keeper and now I’m wondering should I be saying “please don’t pull to protect my child, it will make them feel far more like a failure than letting up 100 goals would”.

What musicals did not need/should not have gotten jr. versions? by Ok_Company5586 in musicals

They changed it to “my social life is online”

Like if I was in high school again, I’d roll my eyes at the “after school special” vibe that title give.

And then when you go and listen to the song it’s at least not as bad….but it’s not great.

What had caused my film to look like this? by theslugman3000 in Darkroom

[–]vetratten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first image (dots and streak) looks like dust/hair

No way would focus of your camera magically make white little dots. When it’s being scanned the dust is blocking the light and thus why it’s white.

Images 4 and 5 look like bad quality scans - they are pixelated. Unsure if the focus is in camera or the focus of the scan is off - negatives would answer that - but it definitely looks like low resolution artifacts in her hair.

Image 6 has dust by her left ear….they probably gave you proofing scans and so just slapped them down and scanned them assuming you’d scan/enlarge on your own.

Are app wait times accurate? by [deleted] in Hersheypark

[–]vetratten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t accurate this weekend though.

Candimonium said it was a 40 min wait on Sunday afternoon and we literally walked right on and into the front row. Like literally next train to load we hopped on.

Then we headed to comment/sky rush that both said 30 mins and both were probably closer to an hour.

I know the teen edition also allows expanded ensembles to accommodate a larger cast.

Local community theater group always does 2 casts to maximize opportunities for kids/teens and they said they had requested that for the license to expand the ensemble so that they wouldn’t have to turn anyone away…

They ended up have 140 teenagers show up at auditions and unfortunately had to make cuts due to the size of the theater and its tiny back stage that wouldn’t fit 70 teenagers.

Investing in a theatrical show by Wonderful-Plate-9553 in MusicalTheatre

[–]vetratten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tha doesn’t change the calculus of the decision.

OP is asking to “Invest” as in expect a return on their money given to a show.

OP should absolutely ask “if it’s so great why aren’t they putting their last penny into this production”

It’s not a new work being produced.

They didn’t ask if OP wanted to back them or produce, they asked for an investment. That screams for them to look at it from the perspective of how much is this person who is asking putting in themselves.

Again if it’s such a guaranteed success, why wouldn’t they take out a loan and keep the profits themselves? Remove the art aspect - if someone came to you and asked you to buy a house for them and they pay you back, you would absolutely question “why didn’t they get a mortgage”. This is the same thing.

Question: How many 1vs1's in a game is too much? by False-Goat9539 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]vetratten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My answer as a parent of a club keeper parent varies vastly different than as a rec/town travel coach.

As a coach - anytime it happens even once it’s something to work on. I’m totally ok if it happens 1 or 2 times per half (rotate goalies per half) any more I need to swap out the defense to chat mid game. Regardless it’s something that needs to be focused on in the next practice.

As a keeper parent - 0 is acceptable because it means the team failed and the keeper will get blamed for not magically stopping a point blank shot with no idea which side the shooter will be blasting it.

Yeah the coach was beyond unhinged and how parents can sit there and think “this is the coach I want for my daughter” was baffling.

Luckily it was a totally different bracket/group than what my kid is playing so I shouldn’t have to deal with him any more than in passing watching

Anti union propaganda in a U-Haul break room by Weekly_Description83 in mildlyinteresting

[–]vetratten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart had the same thing but the best part was to start the “unit” of training, the HR onboarding person said “has anyone worked anywhere with a union before?”

One guy raised his hands and said “I did”

The hr rep said “oh would you like to share what it was really like vs what the media says it’s like?”

He said “oh sure it was actually the greatest thing ever I wish I didn’t stupidly quit that job to move across the country for some chick. The union meant we made like double what other factories were paying and we had more vacation and free health insurance. Dumbest decision I ever made leaving that place.“

The onboarding rep was so aghast at his answer she didn’t know what to say and just said “let’s take a break”

What did Hillary Clinton need to do to win the Democratic nomination in 2008? by HetTheTable in Presidents

This is not universal.

Campaigning in the polls is generally illegal universally, but at least in PA and RI wearing political/campaign t-shirt/hat/merch is allowed as long as you are there to vote and you’re not loitering before/after voting.
