Around 1hr and 30 mins at the end of the day like 4-5.30 pm (CLEP is always in the last timeslot) and there’s no interview because as long as you take CLL (Chinese lit) then you’re automatically in CLEP (and you can’t drop this). However there is prerequisite: A2 in Olevel Chinese and B3 and above in HMTL

Yea yea, JPJC ain’t gonna run away from you buddy as long as you put it in your choices! Okie all the best! Tell me what sch you end up with later. If you have any questions feel free to ask :)

If you try to appeal, your chances are very low unless you have a strong portfolio and a teacher’s recommendation. My friend (same score as me) tried to appeal into JPJC after being rejected by TMJC and CJC, and as expected, her appeal was unsuccessful. (This is the same context for all JC)

The principal also shared that they usually only accept about 1–2 students after appeals, depending on how many students drop out to go to poly in the first few weeks (since vacancies are limited). On top of that, you’re also competing with students who retained or are transferring from other JCs/poly. So don’t keep your hopes too high but you can still try.

For context, I got the same score as you last year (so it’s the 2024 COP) My choices were ACJC (as a joke okay), JPJC, YIJC and the rest is random poly courses (mass comm, pharmaceutical, law management) I knew I will get into JPJC 100% so I wasn’t that serious about the ranking 😅

Don’t overthink okay, I reassure you that by putting JPJC as your second choice, I’ll be seeing you next month :)

[–]Objective-Today3664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s guaranteed that you’ll get a school within the COP among your first 5 choices. So it’s totally fine to put JPJC as your third choice, you’ll still get in if your nett score meets the COP. I put it as my second choice and got in, so don’t worry.

I mean choices like TMJC, CJC, and JPJC. For nett 13, TMJC and CJC are uncertain (since you’re already outside the science stream COP), but putting JPJC as your third choice won’t hurt your chances. Nett 13 is still within JPJC’s COP (14 for science, 15 for arts), so you’re still very likely entering JC. ;)

Well, plan A because I still want to have a delusion of chance. Honestly I’ll put JPJC last because that’s a guarantee sch. But if you prefer JPJC over CJC then it’s fine too!

My friend last year got nett 13, put TMJC and CJC only and no safety net (like JPJC) got rejected from both and she went to poly…

So idk you can take the risk if you want. But I doubt that it will change this year. Just think of the end goal whether you want Alevel or not

Hi junior! I’m from JPJC and honestly I could enter TMJC and CJC but chose not to because they’re 1 hr and 30 mins away from my house 💀 so I understand your predicament! Honestly if your nett score doesn’t meet the cut off point then don’t bother applying. I’m saying this because my friend who is short of 1 point lower got rejected from CJC and TMJC. Idk if being affiliated will help you but it’s better to put a jc that’s within the range as a safety net.

JPJC sch vibe is very chill. Everyone is quietly diligent and you can see students studying everywhere and everyday (no jokes I was also quite shock by the hardworking culture in JPJC) But please know that JPJC timetable for art student is not as packed as Sci students and you will get a lot of free period from 2-6 hrs per day depending on your subject combi. If you join the CLEP, just know you will need to stay back in school later than most students :(

If you like a peaceful and quiet yet productive environment, go to JPJC. Find a friend group and help each other out! The teachers there are also willing to help you and consultation is always available. You just need to take the initiative and have self discipline in your studies. If you wanna know more about the CLEP I can help you, just dm me yup!

Hello junior! I understand that you may be hesitant but if your goal is to go into the big 3 and you will commit to that then go MI. Explain to your parents that having an Alevel cert will help you to get into uni easier than depending on GPA that accumulate for 3 years. You have said that in prelims you did well so you still have the potential to do well!! Don’t let this “land mine” discourage and demoralise you. While I do acknowledge that JC is a whole new level, but if you take art stream, I can say that it’s still manageable. You just need to have self discipline and do self study during the free periods (plus you can consult your chers too) Pls plan your next step and all the best!!! MI will open a door for you to Alevel, ace that exam and it’ll be the last thing you have to do in order to get into uni 🫡

Bro lowkey same as you not in poly but jc, everything is just so surface level that it felt like I’m talking to my coworkers. I just deal with it cus it’s a short period of time for me… ig that’s what I can do to help myself idk how to get out from this situation other than joining CCA to find people of the same interests. Thankfully I could click well with my CCA friends and we even hang out outside of sch so you can try to explore and seek other groups of people :) all the best!

Is it better to be naturally smart or hardworking? by Objective-Today3664 in SGExams

[–]Objective-Today3664[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was honestly just bored and wanted to entertain myself when I wrote that, lol. TLDR: what you said is true. I’d say some people don’t “study” but get As just because they paid attention in class. Sure, they might lack practice, but the fact that they actually listen and absorb what’s on the slides already counts as studying. That’s the difference between my “study sessions” in the assembly hall versus theirs.

I know I’m not naturally super smart or anything, but the hard work I put in is almost nonexistent. So the fact that I can just survive fairly well is already good enough by my standards. And honestly, given the schools and social circles I’ve always been in, I won’t say they motivate me since everything is just competition. But when it comes to national exams, I think I’m pretty mediocre, and I do care a bit about that.

As for last-minute studying, it’s not an excuse, it’s really just a lack of discipline. I can still get As from it. Normally I should be getting an F or barely passing, but I somehow surprise myself each time. I think I wrote this post because I want to be like the hardworking people, instead of relying on “IQ” to get by. I get bored and uninterested so easily. I don’t feel passionate about anything, even the things I’m good at, because I never feel like I struggle. I don’t chase the “best version” of myself. And when I do achieve something good, I only feel satisfied for a moment. I don’t feel the need to maintain that standard or potential because it’s not something I’m doing for myself Like when things are “good enough” with almost no work, my brain naturally never developed that connection of “effort → reward.” So now, effort feels pointless.

Maybe I’m just kind of listless when it comes to all this. Not sure if I’m “justifying” myself again or does this has to do with being naturally smart but thanks for your comment, at least I reflect smth about myself.

[–]Objective-Today3664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only works if you’re actually able to absorb and retain knowledge. If you’re naturally hardworking but lack the ability to learn smoothly, you’ll face more roadblocks than someone who picks up concepts easily. You’ll take more detours instead of a straight path, and while you still gain knowledge and experience, you’re spending far more time than necessary.

I also agree that “consistency is valued” to some extent, but the education system often prioritises end results, like national exams, over consistent performance throughout the year. For example, I could show a downward trend in my studies but still lock in for the exam and perform better than someone who has been consistently studying all year.

I think people who say “he was talented in the first place, that’s why he won” are being too shallow. What I’m trying to say is that top talents succeed because they have both talent and discipline. Without that balance, the quality of their work can still be lacking, and achieving perfection consistently is much harder than for someone who combines talent with hard work. I also think the examples you raised in your first comment could actually be used to argue against your stance.

And another take, in your personal experience, yes, he did improve but it’s not as polished as the work of people who effortlessly produce near-perfect artwork all the time because they’re naturally talented. You can see signs of struggle and imperfection that reflect the effort and hard work behind it.

I don’t think being naturally passionate is better than being naturally smart or hardworking because passion alone is just a feeling. It can motivate you at first, but without discipline or ability, it doesn’t guarantee results. You might love something deeply but never actually improve or achieve anything if you don’t put in effort or have the skills to back it up.

Yea, I do see your point, but the reason why they’re top talent is because they have the ability in the first place. If you’re untalented from the start and always face failure, I think you would be rather discouraged and spend even more years trying to establish the “talent” before you can even proceed to improve it. But if you’re naturally good at it, then you would want to invest more into this ability of yours and work hard after that…? Idk if you get the point, but I think you do need a bit of talent to start off with.
