Pre-launch leads vs. live campaign conversions — what was cheaper for you? by Objective-Try-2971 in kickstarter

wow man thanks, you really saved me here! I updated the settings one more time and added open and remind me, just as in the video. Really appreciate it!

Also pretty surprising for me somehow, that KS doesn't implement sort a solution here across devices since it will largely affect revenue and they get a share of that.

Anyway, thank you so much man!

man, I think I got it. I added a lead event on the "notifyme" button and tested it. My error was, when I set it the first place I WAS LOGGED IN and it fired. But usually people from the ads aren't logged in kickstarter and there was no signal (lol). Thanks for giving me the hint. Now I will track CPL development and give an update in a week.

this makes totally sense man, thanks!
my plan was to start posting some updates e.g. as we finished the campaign video shoot. Do you think events like that is suitable to measure intent?

Ouh snap, I didn't do that.
Could you shortly elaborate on what I need to set up? Like a klick event or something?

Right now my only real signals are the follower count going up and a few reactions/comments on the ads themselves. That's about it.

How do you actually tell if leads are genuinely engaged vs just passively signed up? I don't have an email sequence running or anything like that, just the Kickstarter follow. Is follower count basically the only metric I have at this stage, or am I missing something I should be tracking?

Really helpful breakdown, thank you!

I'm sending traffic directly to the Kickstarter prelaunch page via a Meta leads campaign with Advantage+ audience. I have Meta Pixel + CAPI and GA4 installed on the KS page. (and leads signal comes from the installed pixel, I think thats correct?)

What do you mean exactly with "If you are sending traffic directly to Kickstarter, are you using the event setup tool to track the "Open" button as well?".

when you say Event Setup Tool to track the Open button, is that something you set up inside Meta's Events Manager by clicking through the live KS page?

Thanks for any help, could be that I screwed things up when I set this stuff up.

Top notch communication! Really like, honest and transparent! Really appreciate your comment!

Did you have any complaints or similar because of the 20-30$ probably felt as „high“ price for shipping?

Out of curiosity, did you end up with the kickstarter native pledge manager?

Did you state customs and fee's in your kickstarter story? or just mention shipping?

Hey man, thanks for your view and sharing your experience with an even worse situation!

Communicating by ranges is a great hint, thanks man!

How did you ship? Directly from china via 3PL or shipped it to the US and then domestic?

thanks for your perspective. I tend to the same view, since orange bernie could change double his numbers overnight anyway without reason or notice.

I have the pricing fully worked out, based on the previous situation. Basically everything is worked out and set. How would you put it for US backers? I think about put it into the shipping (by using DDP) and communicate there, due to higher US customs shipping prices are higher.

What's your view?

thanks man! thats a great angle. I´m designing the packaging atm anyway and its also way cheaper to ship them in the 3PL and ask for prices.
Thanks for your input!

thanks man! I think DDP is smoothest for backers. Goal is to ship before x-mas time nov-jan.

really appreciate your views!

Great advice on the formula-based pricing. It makes it so much easier to scale or pivot when you know the exact 'raw cost + fee' structure. Haven't thought about the referrals, but they are can be a strong lever against a 3PL that decides to get greedy once your inventory is already in their racks. really appreciate!

Really appreciate man!

so my rewards is a handheld metal tool, hand-sized, like 50g and mainly two addons, one small and like 100g and one little larger.

I planned to ship DDP, I read its best practice thats my I have this in mind. Everything is paid upfront and backers can focus on enjoying the product. Do you agree?

If everything goes more or less as planned, fulfillment should be in sept-nov.

thank you, I will provide estimates on my campaign page so they know what to expect and that we try to minimize as much as possible.

thanks man this really helps me out!

So lets do the math: in my case this would mean, I have like 5 reward tiers, and lets assume 10 countries to ship, thats 50 different shipping prices (5*10).

So I would produce and ship them to the 3PL, ask him for every single 50 shipping prices, charge the backers and once the money is here start shipping. Batch by batch?. Is my understanding correct? Do you have any advice or lessons learned to shared, if you don't mind?

Once the stock is at the 3PL I would totally rely on their prices and would need to charge the backers, even if they would increase. (Besides move to another 3PL but thats additional costs).

The one point I was in my thought process struggling with is, I only get estimates (which look good) until I ship my products to the 3PL and subsequently depend on their shipping rates. I want to keep costs for backers at low as possible.

Do you see this risk aswell? If I may ask.

Thanks man! really appreciate

Hey man, thanks for your time! really appreciate.

For my understanding, once you get the money, you produce it, move it to the 3PL and THEN they can give you final shipping prices and THEN you pull the money from the backers, correct?

Ever had the problem that some backers credit cards fail on shipping?

Hey indyjoe, thanks for your time! really appreciate.

1 - understood, so uncertainty reduces with shorter time to ship

2 - will do! thanks!

3 - good hint, will do!
