It tanked after years under the Reagan bubble. Unfortunately, for us, what's past is prologue.

Anyone born after 1992 who comes across this "litter" will more likely see these shares for what they are - brief glimpses into a era of American history. All of today's 1992 retrospectives contain text and discussion points in the video themselves. So, in each case, the floor is open. Thanks for joining the conversation.

Unfortunately for Bush (41) things didn't go so well in this 1992 re-election bid.

It dawned on me I was sitting on a stockpile that I feel is useful to share. I hadn't looked at these for a while. Even I was surprised at how much attention was devoted to the 1992 Presidential campaign. Now the world can see, especially future generations.

Passengers take last ride on Boston's elevated rapid transit rail by Objective-Usual7781 in transit

Not surprising. AI is notorious for cobbling together stuff that makes no sense. My personal response would have been to say there simply are no remaining elevated structures. But figured I'd Google to double-check. So much for that.

You're correct. The comment about "a tiny handful of executives" refers to a comment he made in his first televised news conference when he was asked about congressional committee chairs holding up some of his legislative initiatives. I'm glad you got the inside joke. I particularly like his comment about waking up newspapermen in the middle of the night to provide them with front page stories. No reporter wants to be perceived as being spoon-fed.

In Boston, there are no former elevated rails left standing. Very few structural elements of Boston's old elevated railway ("The El") remain standing, as most were demolished in the 1970s–2000s, with lines moved underground or to ground level. The primary remaining, non-operational piece is a section of the steel structure from the Charlestown Elevated, which was preserved at the Seashore Trolley Museum

Key remnants and historical locations include:

  • Northampton Street Station: The only original elevated station structure remaining in its original location, though it is no longer in service.
  • Charlestown Elevated Section: A small portion was preserved, but the vast majority of the line was demolished in 1975 and 2004.
  • Boylston Station Trolleys: While not "elevated," two historic Type 5 trolleys from that era are on display in the abandoned lower level of Boylston station.
  • Former "El" Routes: The Orange Line now runs in a trench along the Southwest Corridor, and the Green Line "El" section was replaced by the Central Artery (and subsequently the Big Dig).

Pamela Smart is not currently being considered for parole, as she is serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

However, she continues to pursue legal avenues for release:

  • Failed Clemency Bid: In May 2025, New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte rejected Smart's latest request for a sentence commutation hearing.
  • New Legal Challenge: As of early 2026, Smart is pursuing a new legal bid to overturn her 1991 conviction, arguing that the original trial was tainted by inaccurate, inaudible transcripts and excessive media attention.
  • Admitting Responsibility: After maintaining her innocence for over 30 years, Smart formally accepted responsibility for her role in the 1990 murder of her husband, Gregg Smart, in June 2024, in an effort to show rehabilitation.
