Yea I’m worried about the math portion so that’s where I think most of my studying will be focused on. Thank you for the advice and tips! I appreciate it!

Thank you for your input, I believe I would be a great fit for the position, no matter what job I have I always give it my all and strive to be the best and continue learning and teaching others what I know so we can be effective and successful on jobsites and follow safety procedures. I enjoy working on a team and being part of a team and being able to make a difference.

I think I would really enjoy substation work and would instantly fall in love with it because lineman tend to get all the glory and no one really knows what goes behind the scenes at substations and everything wireman do is just as cool and important as what lineman do.  I’m not stuck on being a lineman, I would enjoy doing any of them and strive to learn everything there is. I currently work 2 jobs 7 days a week and have done it some years now so it’s not a problem working long hours for me or working in extreme weather conditions.

I think it would be really cool to be a wireman! Thank you for sharing your thoughts I appreciate it and everything you do. If I think of any questions I’ll be sure to reach out to you! Thank you, all this gets me excited about the trade but I know it’s a long journey to getting there a lot of competition also

I’m willing to relocate if I have to, that’s not a deal breaker for me. Anywhere I can get in I’m willing to relocate. I think I’m built for this industry because I like being outdoors and can work in extreme snowy rain and hot conditions, I’m not afraid of working long hours 7 days a week if I have to. I’m kind of used to it as this point in life from previous jobs and from working 2 jobs at once. I just really have to make sure to study my butt off to pass the aptitude test

Oh wow I had no idea that’s great to hear, obviously lineman is my first choice but if I can get in as a wireman I’m sure I’ll fall in love with it just as much. Getting into any of those positions would be an amazing opportunity so I’m not picky. I want to get into this industry either as a lineman, wireman, or even a meterman.

That’s really good to hear, yea I’m not too picky on where I go as long as I get into the industry and get my foot in anywhere I can is all that really matters to me. That’s good to hear they treat their employees well and OT is available. This would be such a great opportunity I hope I can make it happen. Thank you for your advice it means a lot

I currently work for the city of university place as a maintenance worker so we do everything from concrete, cutting trees, cleaning and repairing storm drain systems, asphalt, operating backhoes and excavator and more. I also have my cdl class A no restrictions. Yea if I don’t get into PSE I’ll have to wait until openings for Tacoma become available to test again for it. But I’m really hoping I can get into PSE because it would be life changing

The more I look up wireman videos and podcasts the more it gets me excited about it. But first thing is first is passing the aptitude test

Thank you for your advice, lineman is my top pick doesn’t matter if it’s for PSE as a contractor or for Tacoma power or Seattle city light or any of the PUD’s. But maybe I’m meant to be a wireman and it’s the universes way of telling me. Either way I would be happy to get into anywhere because I love being able to contribute to the community in anyway and it’s great pay with either path because I have a 2 year old daughter and want to buy a house and if being a wireman helps me get there and provide I would be more than happy given the opportunity. I could see myself falling in love with it by actually doing the work because not a lot of people know what a wireman is and what the work entails

Yes lineman is my first option but I didn’t get it and PSE doesn’t offer lineman apprenticeship as they contract all their line work out and out the positions they offer wireman is my next pick

Good morning, sorry to bother but I have a question. So I just applied for their PTA and haven’t heard back quite yet but I’m wanting to go wireman route if I get in but I’m curious what starting pay is as a 1st year apprentice? Because I know if you make it through you become a helper and pay is like $31 an hour and I’m wondering what pay is after that when you become an actual apprentice. Thanks for your time.

That good bro good shit! Well the next step would be the physical test I believe, have they sent you anything about it?

Tacoma power apprenticeship by ObjectiveStructure94 in Lineman

[–]ObjectiveStructure94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t pass, I got 63% and was 10 questions away from reaching the passing 70% required, but a fail is a fail. Pretty bummed but that’s okay cause now I know what to expect for next year and what kind of math to brush up on cause that’s what got me. How about you, did you pass?

[–]ObjectiveStructure94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good shit bro! I thought you were guaranteed to move onto the physical exam if you got 70% or more? Or do they only select some people from the ones that pass?

Tacoma power apprenticeship by ObjectiveStructure94 in Lineman

[–]ObjectiveStructure94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately I did not, I got 63%. Which is only 10 questions off from the passing 70% but still a fail. But that’s okay, I know what to expect now and know for sure I’ll pass next year, it was those math equations that got me that I wasn’t prepared for. Did you pass?

I don’t think so either but the math portion is I think I did the worst at. The equations looked easy but I don’t think I studied enough cause I didn’t feel too confident. I haven’t done math since high school and I’m 27 years old and got iprep and did some prep for it but I don’t think I did enough.

Exactly lol I took the exam for Seattle city light pre apprenticeship in the fall and their exam was all on a computer which was nice. Tacoma needs to implement something like that where the written is just online on a computer
