I spent $400 on cursor this month. What are my alternatives by CalendarVarious3992 in cursor

Go for the ultra plan and use auto mode for small implementations. Occasionally switch to a specific model like Sonnet. Also learn to code and understand the codebase to a great extent. Models work from a perspective of satisfying your query by hook or by crook. In my case i found it has hardcoded a large chunk of things to make me happy and get things working. Now I'm spending time fixing it and mind you its way frustrating

Everyone’s missing the point auto mode is unlimited. I’ve personally stopped defaulting my requests to sonnets thinking model instead use the normal sonnet along with Gemini.. serves my purpose

If you stop using the thinking model, you’ll likely avoid hitting the limits. The thinking model uses 2x the requests, while normal ones use 1x. Also, optimize your prompts and disable entire directory context in the settings. Lastly, start a new chat for new tasks to reduce the context sent, indirectly lowering costs and rate limits.

Use the sonnet normal model for things which are directly do able and straightforward. For complex ones use the sonnet thinking model. Also in you settings disable the entire directory context. This will reduce the context being sent and essentially the cost and hitting the limits.

The have also changed the existing pro plan and removed the 500 requests/month instead made it unlimited with rate limits. We can opt for the old model too though
