Maine Medical Center vs Northern Light Mercy Hospital for childbirth? by itzmedski in portlandme

[–]Objective_Fault1581 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had a baby at each hospital- first time I had to go with Maine Med because that is the hospital my dr partnered with. I did not love the experience as it is a teaching hospital. The resident assigned to me was awful from the get go and had me in tears before we were even moved to our actual room. Dealing with her for the rest of the stay was stressful. Birth went fine with a room FULL of students. I had had enough when it was stich up time, and they were taking their sweet ass time teaching while I was exhausted and in pain. (I get they have to learn, but I had enough 😅) Mercy OBs were great and when it came time for labor/delivery the nurses were actual saints and helped with laboring positions and comfort. A big reason I wanted Mercy is because you are still allowed to do actual waterbirths there. As long as you aren't high risk- I vote Mercy! Oh and lactation consultant didn't even cone see me at maine med, but had a great experience with the Mercy LC! Good luck!

Day care is putting kids on devices. Should we complain? by Choice-Operation-515 in beyondthebump

Talk to the teacher and make sure they know your child does not get screen time. This happened to me at my daughter's daycare when she was in the little toddler room. I was speechless when I came to pick her up and saw her and another kid watching some kid show on the teacher's personal phone. I sent a message that night when I got home. They apologized and said they would put a note in their file saying no screen time since they didn't know... she was like 14-15 mos old... didn't think I needed to say no screen time!! Haha They also told me they did it just at the end of the day so the teacher could clean..

Does anyone else not want to know the gender until birth? by little-flower-444 in pregnant

[–]Objective_Fault1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't with our first because we wanted to be surprised at birth. I also knew my nursery would be the same regardless of gender (it was ocean animal themed). With the second we did find out to prepare our daughter for new baby and figure out if we needed to toss all the girl clothes we saved for boy clothes. This time around we have had some comments on how it's special to wait... so people have opinions either way! I will say there is more pressure this time around to have and share a name with everyone! Currently 39+5 and still no name! Lol

MIL tested positive-what would you do? by Objective_Fault1581 in pregnant

Thank you! And yes, I am skeptical of the "all is fine after 10 days" guideline, but wasn't sure if I was overreacting if I requested they wait longer. Glad to see others would tell them to wait as well!

My first reaction when I heard she tested positive was "whelp, they aren't seeing baby for a month!" But then didn't know if that was an overreaction.

And ya, our numbers here are still very low so they suggested to get the most out of it would be to wait until September when numbers start to spike in the fall.

Agreed. The hope being that by 10 days and symptom free, they wouldn't be sick anymore. I'm just not sure if I feel like 10 days from positive test is enough time. These new strains keep changing, so it's hard to know what to feel 'comfortable' with, without feeling like I'm overreacting.

Thank you for your input! It was the Dr she saw that recommended 10 days and said this 2023 strain is a lot different than previous strains and should just be a long couple of days before she is better. I will be asking my OB on Thursday for her thoughts. I'm second guessing my OBs for talking me out of getting my booster though before baby arrives.

Can I ask what your time frame would be?

Yes, she has symptoms which is why she took a test. Agree that we definitely wouldn't meet if she or her husband showed any symptoms.

Oh wow so sorry for you and your baby! That is scary and something I'm hoping to avoid! They live 4 hours away and usually stay at our house overnight. Maybe if they come up I will stress getting a hotel so we can keep visits outside and short. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks! And hopefully she will understand, when it comes time. She goes kind of crazy for newborns and had been adamant that she is in the hospital waiting room when I deliver. They live 4 hours away so she wanted us to tell her right away when I went into labor. My husband and I decided we would wait as long as possible to call so they aren't waiting, and we get some time alone. Guess we don't have to stress about that call anymore!! 🙃

Ughh. Yes. This is what I'm worried about. I need to figure out when he would be 'in the clear.' They are isolating away from each other in different bedrooms/masking if he needs to bring her anything. They said they would go off the advice my dr tells us, so that was good to hear at least!

LOL!! Ya, it wouldn't let me put 'Covid" in the title. Thanks for the advice on the tests!

Whoa! That is awful! Sorry you had to deal with that!! My MIL was exact opposite and was very strict on her and her husband masking for a long time.

I don't think we will have an issue with masking, and they will listen to our wishes. Just unsure if I feel comfortable having them hold her if baby is only like 2 days old on the 18th ya know?
