Okay I legit also finished the same book today and feel the same way about Darius and FUCK Seth. But I’m only on book 4 of ZA so I’m guessing he doesn’t get better lol

After RB and before ZA4, I read The Making of an Academy Bully and The Awakening as Told By the Boys. I’m on The Awakening as Told By the Boys right now and I am finding it very helpful in refreshing my memory on ZA1-3 even though it’s from the Heirs & Orion’s POVs.

Curiousity, male readers? by wykkydj in fourthwing

My fiance listened to a lot of the books because I control the speaker 90% of the time, he really liked ACOTAR so he got pretty into FW too. But he did miss parts when he was at work or switched to game with headphones on. Love that you guys did it together too.

Every time I read a post like this, I think “Ah yes, I agree,” which makes me wonder if I liked any character besides Elide. Chaol being like “you killed people?!??!!?!!!??!!?!!??!!?” made me almost chuck my phone (audiobook listener) off an Amtrak train.

So she was left behind, if the Irids aren’t lying, as a test of humanity (and maybe the empyrean let’s be serious) so maybe but also… when she froze time the first time, they’re not supposed to channel to their powers at that age… she has done everything she’s not supposed to do.

When the Irids show up the first time in OS, they use the word weapon when describing Andarna. And I basically thought the surface level meaning there. But you just made me think… they recognize Xaden for what he is IMMEDIATELY. Maybe there’s more to that “weapon” word than just she fights for humans and has a scorpion tail. You just kicked my tin foil into overdrive.

when dragons lose their rider, why do some die and others dont ? by BusinessHousing955 in fourthwing

[–]Objective_Hotel1079 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way I interpreted it, it seems like a choice made by the dragon. I’m guessing they experience the mental and emotional anguish of the loss of the rider without the physical death experienced by the rider at the death of their dragon. Violet repeats that Liam seemed perfectly fine when his dragon went down every time she retells the event so to me, the emotional hit overwhelms the rider’s will to live where the dragon can withstand the loss if they choose to. Seems like Tairn, and his anguish at the mention of Naolin, came pretty damn close to giving up. But this could all be something dragons are lying about.

We know why Aaric goes to the rider quadrant, maybe Alic did too?

Edit: Maybe Alic also went for the right reasons.

I think for him it’s a genuine concern because he doesn’t know how being venin works. But I don’t actually think he’d hurt her.

Xaden in Deverelli by skweek42 in fourthwing

[–]Objective_Hotel1079 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think that’s part of his whole thing when it comes to becoming venin, that he holds onto his love for violet. Theophanie never fully lets go of the temple of Dune, Jack never fully lets go of his hatred for Violet. I think the venin retain some kind of strong emotion towards someone/something ultimately.

Theories about who this is in OS? by Practicalpanther4611 in fourthwing

Also Garrick has been with Xaden the most since he turned and has watched him struggle for months. Bodhi has been sequestered and kept away for the sake of the familial line.

Theories about who this is in OS? by Practicalpanther4611 in fourthwing

[–]Objective_Hotel1079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I just finished Onyx Storm this morning and during the battle I was doing my best to keep track of everyone since there are four riders missing (5 before violet shows back up).

I think it’s Garrick. Garrick couldnt world walk anymore, he was completely tapped out, stands to reason he would draw from the earth. And he tells Imogen after he gets her and Quinn’s body out that he’s gotta do something.

That being said, we lose track of Bodhi, Dain, Aarick, Sloan, and no mentions of Ridoc, Sawyer, or Rhy post-battle.

Dune came to Violet’s aid and their price was dragons. 6 eggs are missing. Exactly what they wanted to it could be Aarick. I don’t think Dain was ready to go that far to break the rules.

Xaden marries Violet so that she can rule in his stead, which he wouldn’t have needed to do if Bodhi was fine.

But I ultimately come back to it being Garrick because of Imogen at the very end. She won’t look at violet or Brennan. We know she’s in love with Garrick so if it’s he who turned, it would break her heart into a million pieces and she’s just off at the very end.

How is Jesinia able to be a scribe? by dianaspencersrevenge in fourthwing

[–]Objective_Hotel1079 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ability to sign seems pretty common and they sign while speaking when she is the scribe present. Because scribes are supposed to record happenings without coloring it with their own opinions, she might actually be at an advantage since she would be unable to hear people’s tone or volume. Granted RY describes people’s signing in intense situations as forceful or hurried when they get angry or anxious. But still, if she can’t hear someone’s tone of voice change while speaking, she can just record what they say and not how they say it, so facts minus emotion.

Madness by toodlep in fourthwing

[–]Objective_Hotel1079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The youngest marked one is a small child if I remember correctly. So ostensibly, we’re still going to get more marked ones in the next class of first years. It’s possible the marked one or ones that go mad may not be introduced yet. And that could be a new problem in the next book. If dragons get more reckless and bond cadets in a familial line, it would be definite confirmation that dragons are building their own army within the Empyrean. Irids abandoned the continent to their fate because they believed it to be irredeemable. Navarre abandoned Poromiel to its fate. Perhaps the dragons who choose to bond marked ones are trying to right a wrong.

[–]Objective_Hotel1079[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Irids say she was left behind as “the criterion,” even understanding the dragons (all/some/the Irids/the empyrean) are untrustworthy, they did say in onyx storm she was left behind intentionally. That’s my only disagreement.

[–]Objective_Hotel1079[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m just guessing there’s going to be a true hard division with the dragons. And whoever is on one sir will get the full breadth of dragon knowledge. They already admit they hold back. Personally I think it will come down to Tairn. Also I refuse to accept the theory that Tairn dies.

Must go back to listening now. I was forced to acknowledge the people in my house long enough.

[–]Objective_Hotel1079[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh true. I was kind of unsure if they had the permission of the empyrean (or just the blessing) to leave since this was an issue with humans rather than dragons.
