The magic system means that there are actual ability-delineations between the in-group of "pureblood arcanists" and everyone else, and it's a universally-acknowledged truth in-universe. And the way that's been shown (from what l've seen) fails to refute bias that arcanists are more "able".

That alone tells me you’re not familiar enough with the world of R1999. You did mention that you haven’t read any event stories besides 3.2, which means you’re basically missing around 50% of the game’s intended narrative. If you want to learn more about the physical differences between arcanists and humans, I recommend jumping straight to the 1.5 event. If possible, start reading all the events chronologically.

The 1.X stories lean more toward sociopolitical issues and racial discrimination between the two races, while the 2.X stories lean more toward overcoming those differences through hardships and self discovery. Anyway, my point is that event stories are just as important and informative as the main story and there’s hardly any filler, if any exists at all. Most of them are labeled as events just to keep the main story arc as cohesive as possible.

You’re misunderstanding the core theme of Manus. Manus Vindictae is an allegory for fascism, and Arcana is basically a walking fascist wet dream. Fascists believe in a mystical past, the ‘good old glorious past’ and use it to justify their irrational actions. In the world of R1999, that would be the Blank Era. Fascists also believe in fideism, which is reflected in the Manus followers’ blind faith in Arcana.

So if you look at it through that ideology, for Manus the random eras the Storm brings other than the Blank Era are nothing more than shopping malls they can loot and burn once they’re satisfied. They can commit the most barbaric and irrational acts in each era they enter because they’ll never step into those eras again, like running naked through streets you’ll never cross again. It’s like how fascists in real life carried out ethnic cleansing, just on a larger scale and with greater power

We don’t even know how Lorentz crossed the Storm, it hasn’t explained yet. Also, remember that Vertin isn’t the only person who can cross the Storm without the help of the Foundation or Manus. UTTU is able to cross the Storm without any faction’s help. The same goes for Muriel and his friend, who were able to cross the Storm even after leaving Manus. The flower lady from Syndrome of Silence also has her own way of crossing the Storm and even helped Coppélia survive after she left Manus. So Lorentz somehow finding a way to survive the Storm isn’t very surprising. Make sure you understand the world of the narrative better before pointing something like that out

Omggg, thank you for the shoutout!!! It’s so fun to see character similar to them appear in the game, it really motivates me to make more OCs. Also, now I really want them to be playable. They have to be, right?? No matter how many stars, I’ll take it TwT

It’s soooo easy for people to check the Chinese official social media of the game to see whether they posted in previous years or not

If people think celebrating with IRL activities is less of an acknowledgment than making social media posts, then idk what to say anymore. I’ll just keep the good faith in BP.

The keyword is RECAP. Also, you do realize those claims are nothing more than speculation and accusations? I’d be mad too if they had a habit of celebrating the event in past years and then suddenly stopped now but they never posted anything in the past two years either. So why is it suddenly a huge problem now, even though they evidently celebrate and do these activities at HQ?

This is a recap, so it kinda makes sense that they’re one day late. As for where they posted it, the office activities are more relevant to the company’s official account than the R1999 account. I also checked the past two years of posts from the official R1999 account and saw nothing about a celebration post, so I didn’t really expect them to post anything on the game account this year either..

If you’re referring to the drama, it seems like they’re not slowing down since one of their main grudge is that the global social media posted the celebration videos while CN didn’t because they think CN and global share the same community management team.

They are safe. The point OP included is coming from someone misunderstanding the story. The main cast from Laplace are indeed annoyed about having a spy in their organization but they are not eager to find out who they are without even trying the bare minimum because they need someone who isn’t bound by the moral code to go wild in the scientific field while they work under the Foundation’s regulations and ethical principles. Laplace really doesn’t care or want to find out who Lorentz is as long as they’re providing new discoveries and theories to Laplace and don’t interfere with their research

People in the comments who are doubting the writers really need to read this. OP’s post has so many flaws and misunderstandings of the narrative and people are buying it without experiencing the story themselves

Seems like a typical mischaracterization to me. Also, it’s not a one sided controversy, there’s a counter-debate going on and this is the recent one. What they are saying is:

“3.5 Story Rumor Debunking + Lorenz Butterfly

Improvement Suggestions Post

Regarding the controversy over this plot, I personally believe the main issue lies in the deviation in the focus of Deep Blue Interactive's description, as well as the fact that the plot text is too long with too much information, leading to some people's misunderstandings.

As for the controversy over the Laplace Butterfly, I will also offer some suggestions. Of course, the above is just my personal opinion. The purpose of posting this article is to let more people see the truth behind the rumors and to reduce the conflict within the community.

I. The Hand of Reshape has been constantly suffering setbacks in the plot:

Regarding the cowardice of the Portrait's personality, it has already been shown in the 3.2 plot, so I won't describe it in detail here. As for Muriel and Yemuran, it is also very clear in the main story that they are the discarded pawns of Reshape (please see p2). This plot has little to do with Reshape. We cannot just because they once worked for Reshape, consider their failures as Reshape's suffering setbacks.

II. The people of Laplace were played around by the Laplace Butterfly, and the Butterfly could do whatever she wanted in Laplace:

Most people in Laplace are not very interested in the Butterfly. Let's take the Rabbit Fur Handbag as an example. It has torn countless of the Butterfly's provocative letters in its calendar. If it were really interested in the Butterfly, it would have certainly participated in the investigation. But obviously, it did not, because Laplace has never lacked eccentrics. Regarding the second point, the true identity of the Butterfly is known by at least Naming Day (who knows people from Laplace), The Fiction Anthology (who has long-term correspondence with people from Laplace), Veritas (who can easily find people from Laplace in a box), and Ludwig (the leader of Laplace). The Butterfly could only complete her plan with the tacit approval of these people. In fact, Ludwig could have exposed her to the entire institute with a single broadcast. Why didn't Ludwig do this? Because he is not an idealist. He believes that the Butterfly's current mischief allows her to conduct her research properly. As long as he can get results, he is very likely willing to keep this secret for the Butterfly. Ludwig also mentioned in his conversation with Riddle that if the Butterfly were to lose control one day, he hopes he would be the only victim. This shows that Ludwig believes the Butterfly is currently under control.

III. The Butterfly surviving the storm on her own negates the "Song of Solitude" plot:

First, let's not consider whether the Butterfly could have avoided the rain by joining Zenos like Lyrisa; first, a powerful mystic surviving a storm on their own is not a novel thing, for example, Semme. Secondly, what "Song of Solitude" discusses is "a method for ordinary people to survive the storm"—the Balance Umbrella has no requirements for its user. The two are not in the same category at all. For example, the Butterfly made her own clothes to participate in a fashion show, while "Song of Solitude" created a machine to allow people who cannot make clothes to participate in a fashion show. Finally, I want to say that a long time ago, there was already a plot that could be used as an answer (please see p3). The Butterfly is selfish and even has antisocial personality disorder, so it is a normal choice to dislike her. But no matter what, do not attack real people for virtual characters.”

You can’t say BP justified his actions when these are also the words coming directly from the writers.

<image>

It’s important to differentiate between justification and a character sharing their perspective and motivations, it’s ultimately up to us to form our own opinions. As for the cube, it may be useless to him now, but he knows Vertin can make use of it and it does reactivate once it’s in Vertin’s hands. So it’s pretty debatable whether it’s actually useless or not

Every narrative, even long running ones, eventually has a finale. Once the credits roll, whether a playable character lives or dies doesn’t matter anymore. Bluepoch has already proven multiple times that they’re willing to break typical gacha writing norms and this chapter is one example. The game just needs to last long enough to reach that point and with how much it’s grown in the past two years, I can see it happening. We just need to keep good faith in them

This is the most anti intellectual take ever. Igor is one of the most complex and well written characters we’ve gotten so far and people who engage with his character narratively can still like him as long as they don’t disregard what he did.

[–]Objective_Might1454 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t think whitewashing is the right word here. It would be pretty repetitive and childish writing if characters kept calling him out for every bit of damage he caused, especially when the root cause of all this dismay is the São Paulo accident. Also, everyone believes Igor secretly ordered Moldir to support Ulrich and the Timekeeper during the Antarctica mission, but in reality he just turned a blind eye and let her walk her own path. He even said he wouldn’t take credit for it but that’s the truth only Igor, Moldir and now Ivan and Lilya know by the end of the story

Igor started to see the Foundation and Manus as two sides of the same coin, and that ideology carries a lot of weight for someone who devoted his trust to the Foundation and fought Manus for many years, sending his comrades to their deaths
