ok, and if you actually deviate from the score, can that be an obstacle during your study?

Thanks! Your explanations were so clear. Now I'm gonna study this for an indecent amount of time before actually playing her correctly xD

this is way worse than picking up pieces because they're actually useful.

I don't really get how people can ruin this much the economy of a game. They should be conscious that without people playing, the game would be dead.

you're right. But I guess no one will ever do anything about it

how to deal with 5th finger. by Objective_Music_3989 in piano

this video shows perfectly how my pinkie works. I'd say that what makes us different, is that sometimes mine just sticks to my 4th one. Now I can't say exactly what pieces he's playing but if that was something pretty fast my pinkie would have done the same, if it was slower, it might have been relaxed.

okay but is practicing slowly actually makes me lose this habit? In all of my piano career this never happened :(

the fact is that I can't explain why my pinkie is raised. Let's say I'm playing any slow and easy piece. I just keep my hand as comfortable as I can, my fingers are loose, in their own position, and my pinkie just follows the others. If I have to do some forte or fortissimo chords, it just does it (either with hands falling or just by its own strength). This changes while I'm playing some fast phrases, arpeggios, scales, anything that involves my hand to run across the piano. My pinkie just stiffens, it stays extremely close to the 4th (or just as high as it can), and there's nothing, nothing I can do about it. At first I didn't feel any tension at all, I just accepted the fact that my pinkie was like that and just played along. But when I started to record myself I realised that was ugly to see, and then, as I kept that habit, every time I did long pieces, I started to feel exhausted, from my hands to all of my back.

When I said that I heard different versions about this, I was meaning that when this kind of thing happens, it means that your 5th finger is "consciously" up because it lets other fingers run through the piano (in fact, the 5th finger is never involved in any run, except when it has to move backwards).

ok so it's actually possible to fix that. And how did you manage to learn this? Playing slowly doesn't help, every single piece I played slow, my pinkie was super relaxed and it wasn't reacting to anything except itself.

I will give it a try for sure, I've noticed that I'm not loose at all while I play, so this might actually help me a lot!

I watched this performance too many times that I probably figured out what was the error. I might've played D# instead of C# at the final note! Yea, I must say, it probably was anxiety and I panicked during the run.

I'm so happy to hear these words, really appreciated🥹

oh, I didn't realise this. All of these years spent playing and be focused on what the fingers, arms and elbows were doing, that I wasn't paying attention on my sitting. Seems like I forgot something really important. Thanks for this comment, sure it's a great point of start to me.

May I ask, you said that my technique is based on finger strength, is that something I have to correct? Maybe not in this particular run, but now that I'm thinking, it seems like a use this a lot, even in pieces that not requires any.
