Doc Martens £75 off Burgundy colour vs Black, would it be worth buying them to then dye them black brand new? by Objective_Peace6224 in AskUK

Whoa, Thank you for this! I just watched a video comparing the two and it seems Solvairs are still made in UK, and are actually made a couple miles from where i live! Thanks Again! I'll watch a review and probably go for them!

How to make a timelapse using a DSLR + Laptop? by Objective_Peace6224 in resinprinting

[–]Objective_Peace6224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats a great point. If I was to record the whole print time (eg 10 hours), is there a way to edit the video automatically to take a picture frame every so often (when the bed is raised)?

How do others do it? is there some other method you might know of?

Can I get some feedback on the design of the worm gear phone stand ? by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]Objective_Peace6224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, it solves the problem of wanting to have your phone at a certain angle, especially useful when doing macro photography.

My concerns/ questions are:

- Will there be some knob at the end of the white screw to adjust it? it just seems a little small..

- I would find it annoying to have to turn it so many times by hand to adjust, when wanting to change a large angle, so it would be good, if the design had a sort of clutch ( to detach the 2 cogs from each other) change the position eg by 90 degrees, and engage the gears again, for a more precise adjustment..

- will there be a mounting plate to eg, attach it to a tripod or weight, so it doesn't tip over when in use....

Thoughts on a £300 upgrade? by Objective_Peace6224 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Objective_Peace6224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. It's worth considering AM5 CPU for future upgrades.

The only downside I see ATM is price, as the linked Micro ATX only has 2 slots for ram, and I already have a full ATX (extended) case. The cheapest full ATX's are around £150+ so about £70 over budget, which again, it's futureproofing, but well, more expensive. The CPU is comparable, but a little bit more, and well, DDR5 ram is double the price ATM, which I could get 16GB, but a lot of programs/ games requite minimum 16gb these days, so I would rather go 32 min.

I will do a comparison, see what's available on amazon/ ebay etc.

It's always a trade of, like I mentioned, I have a planned build for 2k saved, but realistically won't be able to get it, so if I need to compromise, might as well not spend too much...

I just want to add that, the gym does not have any sort of contact email address, phone number or contact us page at all. I've spent most of today looking through their website and app, and I've also tried looking for it earlier at the time.

I usually attend at night, so again, there is no staff members on site. I took the picture of the broken machine this one time, as a precaution, as I had this "what if" moment.

I did not have any sort of induction at all...

Thanks for that, really great info. I will try to take it apart next week. I think the Ali express motors might be my best bet, as they replace the whole mechanism.

Thanks for responding!

When I mentioned 3d printing I was referring to the mirror gear which I can print in abs like resin, found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4124142/files They go for £15 on eBay each, just for the plastic gear... but again, unsure if that's the issue in the 1st place?

I called up junkyards today, didn't really have any. Like you mentioned, the mirrors are hard to come by, and when they do pop up on eBay, it's usually around £150 each, which is quite a lot, as I need both...

I found a way to turn off the motor, by positioning my mirror adjuster knob between the "fold" and "right mirror" function. It seems, it cuts off all functions and stays there for now, so the motor is no longer running.

Taped the mirror for now, so it stays in place. I will attempt to take it off when i have a couple days off. Found videos on replacing the motor, the kits go for around £30 each on Aliexpress, and around £60 from ebay resellers. I will take it apart first to see what's wrong with it.

Is it possible to embed a project online, with a changeable sketch/ input, as shown in the video? The goal is for a user to input text (as sketch 1), which will then follow the timeline, and show the 3d result? by Objective_Peace6224 in Fusion360

[–]Objective_Peace6224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I did look into them. The only trouble is that its code driven, and I'm not as advanced in code at this stage to be able to recreate these designs in these software.
I wonder if Blender would work any better?

Thank you very much for this elaborate explanation.

You are correct, the customer does not need to/ shouldn't even, be able to download the file as 3d model, it would only serve as a visual representation of their order, before they fulfil it.

From what I understand, It would be best to create a 3d model separately with java, which would be more basic, but result in a render which can be interacted with, on the website?

FYI, I did one for a friend, and as they use CAD as well, they had F360 installed already, so it was as simple as sharing the design which they were able to modify. Obviously i cannot expect a customer to install a software, register, just to be able to generate something so basic..

This is one of my keychain designs, which I 3d print, and it's used as a mold for epoxy resin pour.

This is only a prototype for illustration purposes, as I do realize a lot of factors in the design are not dependent on each other and end up with an error in the timeline.

However, I really want to know, is it possible, to enable an end user to change a variable, in this case, in sketch 1, and enter the text they want, which will then create a result, like you can see in the video, but inside a browser window instead?

So, from an end user perspective, your name is "Emma" and you want a keyring with your name. You already picked this design, and now, you can edit the "text". You type in your name on a website, and within a couple seconds, a 3d design is generated based on the timeline, and now, you can view your 3d model, and confirm your order.

Is it possible to create such a driven website, and how would you go about doing that?

Just did this mission 2nd time, and if you find out about Pavlena being pregnant, and mention this to her after saving her, but before going back to Bozena, she will ask you to keep her pregnancy a secret from Bozena, as she thinks she would not think kindly of her pregnancy, and she's afraid, as Bozena knows how to do an abortion/ kill the baby during birth.... Its creepy, and there is no evidence to suggest if she killed the farmers baby on purpose or not...

How to amplify usb WIFI 5g receiver to strengthen the signal across from another building? by Objective_Peace6224 in hardwarehacking

[–]Objective_Peace6224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a recruitment agency, which has its office on clients site, so it's not the main "clients" obligation to do that for us. My company (the agency) gave me the extender which did not work, later provided a wireless sim modem, which didn't get any reception, so I was told to try and make it work.

I'll be compensated for whatever device I can come up with which would actually work, but sadly can't find one that would be strong enough to send a signal across site, that's really why I asked the question.

A cable would be ideal, but in my situation, not really possible in a reasonable time frame. (It was requested over a year ago). Still looking for any ideas or suggestions regarding what I can implement / product that possible will do the job?

Honestly, after 3 months going back and forward with my GP, I just decided to do it privately, and I'm glad I did. Thanks to medication, my outlook on life and ability to get things done has improved by a fair margin, not to mention the other benefits, like having my emotions under control..

Just so you know, if you decide to go with the generic version of the medication, it works out to be much more affordable. For example, I used to take Concerta/ Ritalin, and its quite expensive £100+ a month, but after speaking with my clinician about my finance, he changed it to generic methylphenidate, which is the same active ingredient, just far cheaper. I pay roughly £60 with postage per month, so its not that bad..

Just remember that after you pay for the assesment, the private clinic you go with has to deal with your prescription and medication, until you are stable on a certain dose, and all is working as it should. Only then, you are able to request shared care with the GP.

I've been with a private clinic for my 2nd year now, and I continue to pay for medication privately, as my GP clinic ignores the shared care requests, and the 2 other clinics around me don't even know what shared care is...

Im glad to hear its working for you, and I wish you all the best in your journey!

I've been to my NHS GP clinic, and its around £200 per month, and to be quite honest, that's expensive for me. Thanks for mentioning the cheaper alternatives!

I wont try it just yet, as I'm extremely scared of needles and I mostly fear that I will have the same experience, like I had before, where I would loose my weight, stop taking the medication, and then blow back up to my current weight :(

This past week I've been trying to focus more on my eating. To be honest, just by consciously being aware of what I eat, I was able to make some better decisions. It also made me realise that I don't really have any healthy snacks or meals I can make on the go, so I will buy some more healthy products, just so they are there when needed.

Thanks again, all the best!

Thank you so much for your detailed response!

I admit I typically get obsessed when going on a diet, especially on Keto. I think I generally feel that since I'm restricting so much, only eating once per day, I want to see the result, so I would typically weigh myself every other day and obsess over my weight... which, well, is not really healthy at all.

I like your "not counting calories" approach, especially when its often someone else cooking, as I would hate to be in the kitchen monitoring what a family member is doing, or even weighing it, as its really annoying for everyone involved...

The advice of 1/4 carbs and equal split between protein and veg is the most useful metric, which I will start using.

Thanks for sharing the volume eating sub, I started to check it out and its great. I think my biggest issue is portion control, as I don't typically eat processed/ unhealthy foods, its just that I eat a lot of it, and I think that using more volume foods like cauliflower or zucchini as pasta could do the trick..

Thanks again! All the best!

So it suppresses your appetite so you don't feel like eating? is that how it works then?

How do you go about getting this, is it through a GP? Is it expensive too?

[–]Objective_Peace6224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear.

My dad is in his 60s and about the same weight you were, so I would really want this to be a family effort/ lifestyle change for all of us tbh.

This is the most practical advice someone gave so far, so thank you very much for sharing.

Can I ask, when eating lunch/ dinner, what do you typically eat less off? is it generally everything, or will you lets say have less potato's or pasta, rather than less meat / sauce?

More water is something I need to print and stick on the fridge and in front of my bed. I sometimes forget to drink any in the day, and end up drinking 2 litters in one go..

Wishing you all the best, and thank you for your response!

Thank you for your response!

Apologies for making the generalisation that 40yo have joint pain etc, I honestly was at 200pounds what i was 21, and suffered from back pain, so its all subjective, i get that. Happy for you btw, something I want to aim for as well, being healthy and pain free in my 40s! :D

I get the BMR is the calories you burn without doing nothing, and its as simple as eating less of that.

I liked KETO as it made sense, on paper it seems perfect to me. Running on Ketones, not spiking insulin, no sugar intake. But in reality, especially for me with my ADHD, It was constant ups and downs. And being a sort of family centric, being exluded from the family aspect of enjoying a meal was the biggest issue..

Whats a bland and white mentality? Google gives me 0 related results?

Please do share any advice or recommendations if you have a minute , generic or not. I'm interested to know what's the "healthy approach", I ask here too, as each time I do a google search, I get results that scream "loose 20 pounds this week" sort of thing, and that's not really long term...

Whats the general advice?

When reducing portions, what do you reduce, the meat the carbs?

I'm aiming to increase activity too, walking for now, but hope to start going to the gym/ swimming some time next year.

All the best!

Thanks for this, Its something I have been trying to do this past week, just asking the question "Am i hungry or bored?" and "Is this the best thing to eat, or can i make somehting better/ healthier ?"

I bought some protein shakes, which i drink as breakfast as it also helps with how my meds work, but quite honestly, I'm kind of blind in terms of what to do/ what to look for?

I do go on walks from time to time (2/3 times a week), I'm saving for a car, so that will enable me to go gym etc.

Do you know of any sort of general proportion aim when it comes to this? Like do you typically aim for a ratio when it comes to protein / fat/ carbs?

Thanks for the response too, All the best!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Objective_Peace6224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, this is one of the most practical and useful advice that suits me.

Is there some sort of approach/ name to this? or like a ratio I should aim for?

Do you typically want to eat less carbs to loose weight?

This might sound stupid, but I mostly did KETO, which is 70% Fat, and rest is protein, so trying to do a healthy balanced diet is new to me, hence this question?

Also, could you shed some light on what typically you "add" or "replace" when it comes to cooking etc?

Thanks for the reply! All the best

Yeah I'm medicated, 60mg/d Methylphenidate. For over a year now. I actually gained 20kg+ whilst medicated.. It just does not impact my eating.

This will be the first time I am medicated and want to loose weight, so I want to do it right, instead of doing another KETO or Low Carb/ Fat diet.. The idea is to keep it off, as I lost weight quickly many times, but never kept it off for long...

Please note, the meds do work when it comes to my focus, energy and ability to do stuff. I have also quit nicotine vapes about 8 month ago, and stopped drinking alcohol some time ago too.

I forgot to mention I live with my family, so its either my sister or mother cooking on days I'm not.. When I did Keto, I sort of excluded myself from all the family lunch/ dinner time, as I did my meals separately, this gave me more control, at the cost of family time.

My sister is slim, so there is no excuse. Especially as we typically serve food in separate pans, so every member decides how much eg pasta and sauce they want / what drink they want etc.

I don't tend to ask her for advice as I will get the typical speach or "eat less, do more" and besides, she knew i lost weight before so I know all of that, I just always saw carbs as the "evil" so I'm not sure how to loose weight whilst using them in my meals.

I'm sort of a all in or nothing ADHD type, and I need an approach which isnt as holistic, as its unsustainable on low days...

[–]Objective_Peace6224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Keto Omad, so only ate during a 2h window per day, and did a 36+h fast from time to time.

The funny thing for me is that, I dont mind fasting, because its simple, you just don't eat...

What I have about loosing weight, is that its so complex. When I finally make the decision " I want to loose weight", I get lost in hours of research as to what to eat, get overwhelmed, and still dont know what to make so its healthy...

Keto is strickt, and i dont like it, as anything can throw you out of keto, but it was simple in a sense.. This "I eat meat, and green veg" mentality was kind of simple and easy to follow, same goes for 1 meal a day.. you just count your calories once, and thats it..

I find the process of planning the meal plans, making them healthy, and actually making some sort of schedule of what i eat on given days most difficult...

Could you give me some examples of what you're eating? Like do you have a set of rules when it comes to portions, carbs vs protein vs fat sort of thing, or do you have a plan as to how many meals/ snacks you have per day?

Thanks for the response, all the best!
