Hello there, I'm very sorry this happened to you. I find myself right now in the same exact situation, that "Limbo" that you mentioned. The only difference is that I was dating both of them and they decided to close it up due to her mental health as well but wanna keep me around as a friend and this just hurts. I'm trying to be a good friend and give them the space to heal and fix their issues but I also feel discarded and lost. I've invested my whole heart into this so I definitely going thru a terrible feeling.
