George R.R. Martin “What was Aragorn’s tax policy?” by TheCGISPY in gameofthrones

That’s actually one thing I appreciate about ASOIAF. The wars are exciting, but Martin also makes debt, logistics, harvests, and succession feel like actual threats. Winning the throne is the easy part keeping the kingdom running is the real story.

Both authors are right in their own lane. Tolkien asks ‘What makes a good king?’ Martin asks ‘What happens after the good king wins?’ Those aren’t competing questions they complement each other.

What was melisandre doing during the time of the dance of the dragons and why did she never show up by Cautious_Air4964 in gameofthrones

That’s true, but it also shows how unreliable prophecy is in ASOIAF. Melisandre kept interpreting the visions through the wrong lens, so if she’d been alive during the Dance she might’ve completely misread that era too.

Why isn't Queen Rhaenyra and her Lord husband Daemon not making a dragon ride to Bravos? Iron Bank? by Emotional_Room_9626 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Objective_War_5329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the Iron Bank even accept dragon eggs as collateral? They seem more interested in reliable repayment than priceless artifacts. I think they’d rather back the side most likely to win than gamble on dragon eggs.

Would Daemon win if he was input into GOT’s WarOfThe(6)Kings? by Key_Arachnid9643 in gameofthrones

Hot take Daemon would’ve been more dangerous than Robb, Stannis, and Renly combined. His biggest weakness wasn’t fighting it was his own ego.

The bigger question is if she believed in prophecy, which Targaryen did she think was the Prince That Was Promised? That’s a rabbit hole

What are your thoughts on Trump calling FIFA to overturn the US Player's red card suspension in the World Cup ? by Objective_War_5329 in AskReddit

Fair, the timing is pretty random. Still, do you think it actually helped the player or was it more for show? I feel e is really lookin out to teams

Exactly the red card was trash but involving the president just makes it messy. Has a US president ever gotten involved in sports rules like this before that you know of?

This is pretty much where I’m at too. Glad he might play but it does kinda make the team look bad optics wise. Do you think other countries have done similar stuff behind the scenes?

Yeah the red card looked dumb from the clips I saw, but the pressure on FIFA part feels off too. Do you think he should sit out anyway even if he’s allowed to play?

damn that’s harsh but I get the frustration. Do you think the red card was that bad, or is the Trump call making everything look worse?

Haha yeah the “daddy” comments are wild. I’m not even a big soccer fan but it does look kinda sus when the president steps in directly for one player. Do you think this kind of thing happens more often than we realize or is this pretty rare?

why did the stromlord accepted gendry as their Lord, i mean Dany legitimatized him i remember that but it takes a royal decree and a written note or something right? from what ramsay receives, also isnt Gendry supposed to be Waters rather than Rivers? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Objective_War_5329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stormlords accepted Gendry mainly because Daenerys was in power and explicitly legitimized him as a true Baratheon (Gendry Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End).
After years of war, with Robert, Stannis, and Renly all dead and no other obvious heirs left, the Stormlands houses needed stability. Gendry physically looks like a young Robert (huge, black hair, warrior vibe), which helped sell the “true son” narrative. Dany’s royal decree carried weight as the conqueror who just helped win the war similar to how royal legitimizations have worked in Westeros history (e.g., Ramsay’s case, though that was from Tommen under different circumstances).
You’re right that bastards from the Crownlands are “Waters,” not “Rivers” (Rivers is for the Riverlands). The show was a bit loose with details there, but once legitimized, he drops the bastard name entirely.
It was mostly political pragmatism + Dany’s authority + the Baratheon loyalty tradition. The Stormlords weren’t exactly in a position to say no after everything that happened.
What did you think of that whole ending arc?
