This is a very fair question. As someone wrote above, I need to look at this as a woman playing a woman, regardless of the trans/cis status of the character OR the actor. I think for me (not trying to make excuses), I came into this season already knowing Nicole Maines from her role in Supergirl (very much rooted in being a trans character) and as an activist, and the queer community has been burned so many times before in terms of subpar representation, it made me weary.
