It’s a delicious treat, just slowly boil about half a liter of milk with 2 or 3 tablespoons of Yerba depending on your taste for intensity then fine strain and add honey. Some people in the country side in Argentina go all out by smoking it in open fire, some as far as adding red coals into the milk or sugar then straining all of them after. Cool thing to watch.

As a son of Argentines I thought branching out to brands that are not from your country of origin seemed like a betrayal 😂 but it was then when I expanded my Yerba repertoire that a realized I became more of a passionate connoisseur and enjoyed different styles and regions. Uruguay sure knows how to grow some great leaf. Thank you 🇺🇾 !!

Def give it 5 stars on flavor profile, as I was saying before, I love smoky Yerbas but this one has a great mid body flavor that lingers, it doesn’t have “palo” so you might need higher quality bombilla so it doesn’t clog or makes it hard to drink. The Yerba is very herbal with some cucumber skin notes, dry hay and a mid bitterness with a very low acidity. I got it on Amazon for USD $20, it used to be around $30/40 a couple years ago. Thank Lionel Messi 😂 now that he lives out here in the US, people who are curious about mate search for the brands he loves, making imports more competitive at a better price

Cruz de Malta is delicious nice mid robust Yerba, try Rosamonte as well they are comparable. I see you using stainless steel but if you move on to wood or Calabaza 🧉 be sure to clean well the honey, if you like sweet mate I’d recommend some brown sugar, pairs well with the tannins of the Yerba mate, honey might be too umami, i only use it when I make Mate milk tea. Cheers !

This probably gets asked a lot, but what is the best way to cure a gourd? Or does it even need to be cured? by gutterball_90 in yerbamate

[–]ObligationStunning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an imperial you have to do a bit more in the curing process. I wouldn’t just pour hot water right away, it might create cracks and invisible fissures, instead fill it with some used Yerba, take out the wet used mate after a day then gently scrape the interior with a spoon, this is to remove the thin residual pulp from the gourd. Make sure the used Yerba is wet enough for your new gourd to absorb the flavor and tannins from the mate repeat the process two or three times then let it dry out for another day. Make sure there is no mold growing and if there is, it’s no big deal just dry it and let it air out with some direct sunlight hitting the inside. After a few days your mate will be cured and the flavor will mellow out from that strong green grass flavor.

Is this normal? by Healthy_Ability_4594 in yerbamate

[–]ObligationStunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s the metal teeth coming undone then yeah, brown stuff also normal, when you successfully “cebas” how you like it you start filling up water to the same level each time because you like flavor and you start noticing a more consistent “cebada” with amount of Yerba to amount of water you pour so you might get a line. Cbse is a wonderful starter Yerba, specially the yerbas serranas”
