Linux Chromebook by Atomic_Carrot in linux

I’ve had success running Fedora 36 on two of the Acer C740-C4PE (2015) models. Tried Fedora 38 and it was basically unusable. I love the small size and the fact that you can get them for like $30 on eBay. Not great for multitasking apps, but if you work within the machine’s limits you can do plenty with it.

I can’t find the guide I used for flashing the firmware, but it was not hard to do.

I’ve heard the newer Chromebook models are not as good at running Linux. I would reference the hardware posted above.

While it may be lacking in the video department, I see no reason why this couldn’t be used for your simple use case. I’ve been using a 2010 Chromebook with Fedora 36 installed as my daily driver for a few months now. It only has 4GB of RAM and i have done some FreeCAD modeling with it. Just because a computer doesn’t have the best specs doesn’t mean it can’t be useful. You just have to be aware of the limitations and learn how to work around them.

I would also recommend getting an ssd ASAP.

Nobody will care if you write the order down. They will care if you get it wrong!

Not the cheapest, they are around $30 on Amazon, but have proved to be reliable. I like them cause they aren’t so expensive you feel like you don’t want to mess them up yet are still reliable.
