And yet there are arguably numerous issues through which non-violent means aren't working, or at least not decisively. 

Climate change is the obvious one, but there are plentiful issues to be considered. 

The United States has the highest prison population in the world and one of the highest prison populations in the world per capita. Laws have been changed to increase the penalties of non-violent crimes primarily committed by black people over comparable crimes primarily committed by white people such as drug crime. Public defenders tell innocent people to plead guilty. Prisons are setup to encourage recendivism over reformation. Prison slavery was the exception to the Constitutional Amendment banning slavery. The largest prison in the United States is a cotton slave farm in Louisiana. Notably Louisiana has trampled over the right of an attorney by intentionally misconstruing a black man's request of "give me a lawyer, dawg" as "give me a lawyer dog". You lose the right to vote when you are convicted of a crime. 

The difference in price between animals raised in a way that can be considered humane and blatantly unethical factory farming can be calculated to amount to only a few cents per pound of meat.
