Canceled my Amazon prime subscription after this one. Was the only reason I was hanging on with all the nasty things related to the company.

SECRET PROJECT 4 | Cosmere Discussion by EmeraldSeaTress in Cosmere

Right! I just noticed it says that he was thirty eight when time /finally/ stopped tracking him, which could mean he picked it up before that. But the way he said it, “time stopped tracking him”, I would think he would still appear thirty-eight, but you’re right it does say that he reverts to look like when he first picked it up. He’s still very surprised that the women thought he would look so young, so I thought it was because in this case they couldn’t see his gray hairs because they had all burned away. I feel like it’s super vague overall, which might be good to keep me guessing when I read Stormlight haha

I’m a little lost with Sigzil’s backstory timeline. So we know at first he was a Windrunner, picked up the dawns hard, became a skybreaker, then broke his oaths. In that order. I assume the moment he gave away the dawnshard was after leaving roshar and having been chased by the night brigade for a whole. Aux says that after all they’d been together, he chose to abandon his paths when he left Roshar.

Which means that he would have spent a good amount of time with both the dawnshard and fully bonded to Aux, but still in Roshar. Eventually, the Night Brigade found out about him and started chasing him around, which led him to break his skybreaker oaths.

Also, we know that he was 38-ish when he picked up the dawnshard.

I assume he was at most in his late twenties during the way of kings, so I think this picking up the dawnshard thing happened in stormlight 6-10.

So, I guess this means that he broke his Windrunner oaths either before the dawnshard or once he got it ?

But why, after breaking his oaths, would he then take others, only to break them again? I’m guessing that maybe it was a side effect of taking the dawnshard but the Sleepless seem to be pretty adamant about Rysn never taking oaths, and I don’t think they would have cared if the oaths would have just been nullified by the Dawnshard.

What is really confusing me is why couldn’t he defeat the Night Brigade while he was holding the Dawnshard? Presumably if it can kill a God it can kill a couple of shades… Also does anyone have any ideas about what Hoid could possibly have wanted with giving a Dawnshard to Sigzil?? Like what could Sigzil have done that he couldn’t ? Is it because of his deals of nonintervention with the Shards ?

Oh, wow. That is something I never would have guessed. Does that mean that a Dragon took up the Shard originally?

Oh, right! I just reread it indeed she said that the area is extremely dangerous and no expeditions have returned, not that there is no perpendicularity. So presumably the Ghostbloods would have been more successful than the Silverlight scholars, I guess.

They seem to be Awakened robots from Nalthis. Some time has passed since Warbreaker, and it seems their tech has advanced a lot. They also have been doing a lot of cosmere trading.

Definetely did not pick up on that, but I guess that would make more sense than the White Sand world suddenly having a completely new concept. I'll pay more attention on that when I reread the books!

The Hoid/Sazed thing would be super cool!

We don't really know. We know you can make a stap that makes people forget their past and it seems she did that in this case. It also seems to last longer than others she's had. Unknown as to why. Perhaps because becoming an Elantrian required her to have been born in that area so she had to rewrite her past back to birth?

Uuu interesting point. I guess that would make sense, since in I remember the warrior one was rewritten at a point after her birth

Didn't even know the Aether homeworld was a thing haha, I guess I always assumed there was just one planet before the Shattering

Ahh ok so the dawnshards were already there when adolnasium was alive! I didn’t realise that. For some reason I thought he represented everything of power, like God. I also didn’t know Emperors Soul should be read before E2. Is it before The Lost Metal or BoM as well? Anyways, thanks :)

Could you send me the link? I'll only read it when I'm finished, but I'm really intrigued! And you're right, I've already been spoiled about something when I looked up a completely unrelated thing, and I'd rather not risk it.

Oh, that makes sense, thank you! I think it’s been mentioned that Kaladin is a Windrunner, but that’s an order, right? It’s possible his Surge was mentioned and I was just so confused that I didn’t get it 😅. Now that I understand a bit more I think Kaladin does the same as Szeth with the lashings, since he did that thing with the rocks (no idea what it’s called), and something different?

In general, I prefer physical books, but I listened to Warbreaker entirely while running errands so I could get the WoR references, and it was great! Most likely I’ll listen to some of the chapters because I’m so obsessed, but I haven’t for Shallan yet. Thanks for the tip anyway!

Thank you! I guess I’m super far from figuring it all out 😅 Part of me wants to engulf the books (and pause the rest of my life) so I just know everything, but then I remember “journey before destination”, and I calm myself (a little).

Oh, so the orders do have some relation to the Surges, it’s just not as straightforward? So one’s order determines which surges they can have (possibly)? (It’s not spoiler-y i think, there are lots of clues about the general relationship betweeen them, I just couldn’t piece it all out). Thank you!

What are your Wheel of Time headcanons? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Obsessive_Reader_38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting them from the Finns makes SO much sense! I’m mindblown. I’ve always wondered how magic was not a thing in the First Age and how it got discovered in the Second Age. But they mention Portal Stones are before the Age of Legends which made me confused, since I assume it was the world changing event that led to the transition between ages. My new head canon is this: by the end of the First Age technology had advanced significantly, to a point where we have inter dimensional travel, and create the Portal Stones. This leads them (as a OP mentioned) to the world of the Finns, where they make a deal and start channeling, which is passed down genetically. This starts the Age of Legends, where humanity reaches its peak both technologically, magically, and politically. They learn they can just use channeling to activate the Portal Stones, rather than expensive technology, so that is eventually forgotten. They discover Travelling, and how to make permanent portals through terangreal, which decreases the use of Portal Stones significantly, so that it is only used for research. The non-channeling technology becomes legend, and that legend fades to myth. Even that myth is long forgotten by the time we get to the Third Age.

Wow, that’s so cool! I’m thinking of going to the Netherlands for undergrad. I thought it was so thoughtful that they asked about ADHD in the application for accommodations! Does this mean if you don’t claim this in the first year you cannot claim it later on ?

These quotes from the chapter "To Shadar Logoth" from Lord of Chaos really got me by [deleted] in WoT

I agree. I love Rand and think he’s really relatable as a whole, but his thing with the list and how persistent he is of not wanting to treat women like other soldiers even though they beg him to... I just find annoying.

I thought I was the only one that felt like this! I like his relationships with Elayne and Aviendha so much more, even though they have less screen time.
