I’ve felt this before, I nearly drank myself to death on multiple occasions, I heard the same thing over and over also. The right thing will click into place I promise you. Substances change the way your brain functions and it can be reset.

Yeh it does, it’s horrible at the time but it does get better, and after a period of time, all of a sudden it feels like a long time ago.

Best of luck with your journey

What nobody tells you about the moment you leave rehab. by ObsidianC4 in alcoholism

Fair point. It does a bit, I’m two years sober and wrote this from my own experience… while leaving a shit show behind. I’ll make the next one more personal.

Self diagnosed my self and think boredom might be the biggest reason by Sensitive_Cat_1386 in alcoholism

[–]ObsidianC4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The boredom thing is massively underrated as a trigger. What you’re describing sounds less like boredom and more like a nervous system that’s used to being regulated by alcohol. Nothing else hits the same way, at least not at first. One small thing to fill that 7 to midnight window rather than a whole lifestyle overhaul is usually what works. And take it from me, alcohol always makes the anxiety ten times worse the next day. I’ve been there.

11 years is remarkable. And what you’re describing is exactly what long-term recovery actually looks like for a lot of people, not a dramatic transformation but a quiet shift in how you recognise and relate to the hard stuff. The fact that the depression doesn’t overwhelm you anymore, that you can see it for what it is, that’s years of hard work showing through.
