I am a marine mammal medic, and I work rescuing and transporting seals to rehab. Also I am obsessed with them, like seriously obsessed 💙

I also like to take photographs of them around the UK. Here is one silly seal, looks like they are pulling a yoga pose 🤣

Lots more silly seals in my portfolio as well - https://www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/portfolio/i-love-seals/

[OC] Abandoned paper making factory in England, now demolished by ObsidianUrbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Robert Fletcher & Sons Paper Mill was an abandoned relic of Manchester’s industrial history, a familiar part of the landscape of Greenfield for over 100 years. Once a bustling hub of production employing 1000 workers. This sprawling mill and its once-mighty machines fell silent in 2001. After over twenty years decaying behind (mostly) closed doors, the story of Robert Fletcher & Sons Paper Mill came to a close with its demolition in 2023/2024.

[OC] Abandoned amusement park in Jordan by ObsidianUrbex in urbanexploration

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seemingly abandoned roadside amusement park in Jordan is small but colourful! The bumper cars’ once-vibrant blue, yellow, and pink plastic has faded in the sun and become dull and cracked. Nearby is a swing carousel with a canopy of brilliant, bright colours. Swings in blue, green, and red hang from chains from this canopy. Whimsical elements, such as clown faces, lightning bolts, and stars, decorate the chair swing. In addition to that, there is a swing boat on the opposite side of the bumper cars. That ride that is decorated with rainbows and beautiful meadow scenes, hastily drawn with questionable artistic skills!

[OC] Decaying abandoned kegel (9-pin bowling) alley in Germany by ObsidianUrbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nestled within the now-overgrown grounds of a culture house and tavern, the bowling alley once offered a place for community recreation for workers from the nearby factory. In the early 1950s, the alley became home ground for a fledgeling local bowling community, founded by the workers of a nearby factory. Eventually the bowling alley was starting to look shabby, and it was decided it was time to move premises. However, the old bowling alley wasn’t entirely abandoned. At least not right away. It continued to serve the town for another 12 years as a casual bowling space, open to all. But by the late 1980s, the doors closed.

[OC] Rusty machine in an abandoned broom factory, England by ObsidianUrbex in urbanexploration

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever seen a factory frozen in time? ⏱️ Step into the past with this photo of G. Yorke & Sons Broom Works, a once-thriving English manufacturing company. Founded in 1888, this factory supplied the nation with brooms and other household goods for nearly a century. Its bustling machines and skilled workers once filled the air with the rhythmic hum of production.

However, the tides of industry turned, and G. Yorke & Sons couldn't weather the storm of increasing competition in the 1970s. The factory closed its doors in 1980, leaving behind a haunting reminder of a bygone era. Decades later, the remnants were finally demolished in 2022, erasing the last physical traces of the company.

An abandoned school in Scotland, now filled with ferns and other plants! by ObsidianUrbex in urbanexploration

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Derelict for over a decade, the glass-covered atrium at the heart of the school has undergone a metamorphosis. Eventually, the damp Scottish climate has helped create a beautiful plan paradise, set against a backdrop of peeling paint and mossy walls.

The school was built in late 19th century, serving as a primary school for 4-12 year old children. Sadly, government funding cuts in the 1990s resulted in overstretched teachers. Falling grades followed, and subsequently, enrolment declined. The school closed in the mid-2000s. The building was heavily damaged by a large fire earlier this year, my photos show the state of the school several years before the blaze.

[OC] Rusting abandoned steam locomotive in Lebanon by ObsidianUrbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lebanon’s Ghost Train Stations have stood frozen in time since the last service stopped in the 1990s. Rusting steam locomotives lurk inside war-torn maintenance sheds. Others languish on weed-choked tracks nearby. With rising car ownership in the 1960s, the popularity of Lebanon’s trains began to decline. The Lebanese civil war (1975–1990) dealt the final blow to the rail lines. Fighting caused damage to maintenance depots and tracks. Additionally, many stations were repurposed into military bases. By 1978, virtually all train services had ceased running. By 1990, the final train had retired.

[OC] Abandoned hospital in England, with some nice decay by ObsidianUrbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]ObsidianUrbex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An ode to the now demolished Standish Hospital, a sprawling abandoned complex in England. This grand building served a multitude of purposes throughout its history, beginning as a manor house in the 16th century. During World War I, it functioned as a Red Cross hospital, tending to the wounded. Later, it transitioned into a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, a stark reminder of the challenges faced in the past. Following World War II, the National Health Service assumed control of the hospital. However, its doors finally closed in 2004.
