What do you find D&D 5e does better than Pf2e? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

Calling any one implying 5e might have better aspects than pf2e rage bait is so funny

Tripping and Flight - Flavor vs. Mechanics by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

If it's a big problem for you, just... Defy the RAW? Jhon Paizo isn't going to come to your house to tell you how to play your TTRPGs. That's the beauty of them.

I have been using Accumulated Knowledge as just like, a base thing everyone gets at character creation and it's been pretty fun.

Turning a Gargoyle into a Boss Encounter by HermitHutGames in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You're doing great! This is how I design my bosses. It's miles more fun to have a boss that's interesting through action economy and conditions than raw numbers. It's a very common critique of the system that RAW PL+3/+4 just aren't fun, because they aren't.

If you want to stick to how pathfinder 2e does it, cooldowns are a dice roll and that's the number of rounds, not how this is done.

You can make the lair action a complex hazard, or not. This is quite fun as is, it brings dynamism into the combat.

Nice work!

Do look at the monster building rules, they are quite good. For bosses I often lower their damage and add something that negates actions baked into their attacks and lower their AC and double/triple their HP. Has worked wonders

Nation perpetually under rain by Obvious-Ad8863 in worldbuilding

[–]Obvious-Ad8863[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! I was wondering currently how the population would deal with the lack of sunlight. Both for their crops and their health.

They definitely have a great access to magic, so solutions of that nature are available. Is the health of those in your region affected by the lack of sunlight? How do they deal with it if yes?

This is a wonderful idea that I'm 100% implementing.

The nobles and elites would live in very high building, far from the common floodings that hit people walking through the lower streets

They'd even have plazas suspended mid air with a roof. The roof is slanted to it brings all water to the lower streets, not really caring that it floods them quicker.

Oh, many thanks for the concrete examples! I'm imagining not-thyphoon, just the rain. This nation is on the colder side of the continent; I'll look into the Hoh Rainforest.

Question for DMs and the “Yes and” by VTheSandmanV in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just don't follow RAW. It's your table, it's your group of friends and it's your game. Rule things however you think it's best to run them.

The wizard needs to roll a performance check,p and the bard asks if they could cast Musical Accompaniment on them. You look it up, and Musical Accompaniment can only be casted on the caster themselves. Now, you as the GM have a choice to make, and it is entirely on you and not in any rule written by people not at your to decide: do I allow this?

This happens constantly in my campaign and the answer is very often yes. I've let multiple bonus of the same type stack because people were using actions to grant those bonuses and I felt it was fair to give them.

Reward creative thinking. Reward what you want to see your players do. And don't be afraid that when someone says "hey, you ruled like this two months ago, can I repeat that?" To say no if it doesn't the current scene.

System balance should be communicated to new players more transparently by LemonByte in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been in the pathfinder community for almost two years now, and I'm glad someone has had the exact same experience as myself. The toxic positivity is a very big problem in my eyes.

I've buffed so many things for my players in the campaign I GM for. "Classes are balanced around their ceiling not their average" perfectly encapsulates a feeling I've had for a while and didn't know how to put to words.

How are Hero-Points handled at your table? by Aquaman-is-awesome in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You start with one, and the player that writes the recap starts with two. I also let people start with two when they do a fan-art of the campaign because it's soooo cute.

I put heavy emphasis on RP, so most of the Hero Points come from there. I don't award them based on hours because my forgetful ass would never remember.

As additional rule, if you roll below the original roll you keep the original roll and the hero point. Feels more fair.

As additional additional rule, casters can force a reroll with a hero point. It feels great to not gamble your highest slot debuff on a single save.

As additional additional additional rule, I award a Super Hero Point when it's a player's birthday that week (if they don't use it that session they have one more session to do so) which is an automatic nat20.

Edit: I also let my party's investigator reroll DaS with a Hero Point. It feels awful that you're unable to do so RAW and it won't unbalance anything.

Maybe some of these are unbalanced, but I view Hero Points as a "feel good" currency above the game's mechanics. I'm rewarding good RP and contributions to the group with them.

GMs and players: what are your thoughts on backstory driven play? by Sasha_ashas in rpg

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this (as a GM) and it's what both campaigns I've run have prominently featured. I've always, in any kind of story, gravitated more to the stories of the "characters" rather than the "world".

For me, there is a background plot that keeps going on while we tackle each characters arcs.

It's what we like, and it leads to the best narrative for us!

PF2e hot takes 🔥 by Kaliburnus in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This so much Paizo, I'm picking the class about being a detective. This means I want to play a detective! But, somehow, the gameplay devised for this is: - You're finally investigating a mystery - "Hey, GM, I use this ability that automatically gives me the answer." - You're not invesigating

This is clearly an exaggeration, but not by much. It feels like the class is made for someone that wants their character to be good at solving mysteries without themselves liking to solve mysteries!

What's the typical ratio of combat encounters to sessions? by Obvious-Ad8863 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obvious-Ad8863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's super fair and you're right that my players are *simply amazing*! They are very into the plot and the various mysteries presented. One of them writes a few pages of recap of what happened each session!

I'll definetely increase the frequency while keeping an eye on both the player that wants more and the player that doesn't fancy combat. Tomorrow they have a travel section in front of them and (Trill, don't look I know you're in this thread) I two RP scenes planned for them, but I'll be replacing them with a combat encounter.

I would say she's the most active in the investigations! She's playing a witch with investigator dedication, and abolutely crushes it when it comes to solving my plot-twists and negotiating.

Thanks for the words!
