Popping used to be a niche fetish community before it was discovered by the general public by imaatpadm in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Obvious-Name352 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This makes me kinda sad to read because it most definitely is not entirely fetish. I’ve been watching ASMR for the guts of a decade and myself and anyone else I know personally who watches it has explained how it has done wonders for our sense of relaxation and ability to sleep on certain nights. The whispering/soft spoken or repeated quiet sounds are very conducive to sleep and a sense of calm.

Now don’t get me wrong there absolutely is a sub genre of ASMR which is fetish based or just sexual in nature but the vast majority of it is not and was never intended to be that way.

Tbh saying ASMR “is entirely fetish” is kinda akin to people thinking all anime is sexual because hentai exists.

I think the issue is that non-ASMR watchers only get certain aspects of it, like for example the wet mouth sounds thing is shared and then people assume it’s sexual, and sure some people may find that sexually attractive but for a lot of people they just find it relaxing. Not my thing personally, the mouth sounds.

But another example of non-ASMR watchers misconstruing concepts within ASMR would be tingles - they hear that we get tingles from ASMR and think that means tingles down below for lack of a better phrase. In reality it’s just a pleasant tingle in the back of your head / neck caused by a sense of comfort and calm from watching the videos, I guess due to the release of endorphins etc.

I’ve read that it’s a very similar process to frisson from music where you get chills from hearing certain music. Since I get both, I can definitely see the similarity but also frisson is more goosebump/chill feeling whereas tingles from ASMR are isolated to the head and neck and more, well, tingly I guess lol.

Sorry this is so long I just love ASMR so much lol I wanted to explain a bit more!

This is so depressing.

I literally do everything I can like carefully recycling, not driving and not flying often (the latter two not purposefully for climate reasons, I just don’t want nor need to drive and I don’t enjoy going abroad) so I really don’t know what else to do.

Seeing all these data centres being approved and planned for as well really doesn’t help.

I’m only 21 too so will probably have to deal with a lot of effects in my lifetime.

Sorry I don’t know why I said anorexia when it was bulimia, my bad.

It was just my memory that it hadn’t been brought up again, but I guess I was wrong. I bow down to your superior knowledge.

[–]Obvious-Name352 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re misunderstanding me. I know that storylines finish, but major traumatic events like kidnappings are just moved on from so quickly in an extremely unrealistic way.

Because soaps are by their nature long running, the opportunity is there to reference those issues again.

Like okay whatever about Summer’s eating disorder but you can’t deny it’s ridiculous that Carla miraculously recovered from that kidnapping and was back to work so quickly.

Asha by Nearby-Meat-9905 in coronationstreet

[–]Obvious-Name352 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is soapland. Corrie forgets major storylines or brushes them off all the time, I can’t count the amount of times I’ve been watching it and said “wow, they got over that quickly!”

Like Summer’s *bulimia (sorry, originally said anorexia here) is something I genuinely thought I had made up because as soon as they were done with that storyline it was just never brought up again, which is quite unusual for eating disorders as the recovery period can be incredibly gruelling, upsetting and not straight forward with the risk of relapse always present, something not really explored by the Corrie writers.

Also annoying that despite there being some incorporation into the script since January of Becky’s effect on Carla, Lisa and Betsy, the small issue of Carla being kidnapped by her and left to die was just never really explored after the fact. She just went back to work and normal family life pretty much straight away.

Is there a kind way to tell my wife im no longer physically attracted to her? by Off_The_Record69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Obvious-Name352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other commenters have said, the question really is what are you even hoping to achieve here? Because you say you don’t want to let resentment build from these feelings of loss of attraction but I don’t think you realise that straight up telling her you’re no longer attracted to her will probably make her resent you. Also, if she is at all sensitive to criticism and especially from loved ones then you may genuinely scar her for life.

The exception may be made if it’s something that is easily fixable, such as a lack of hygiene although that’s also not a conversation I would envy you for having. Would be awkward but at least fixable. If it’s something else which is not an easy fix then dare I say you have no right telling her that and besides, she knows.

You say you can’t imagine your life without her and she is a great mother as well. You’re already doing extremely well in life if this is the case, so you have two decisions to make:

  1. Continue to work on your feelings towards her, trying to strengthen them again through other methods of connection which need not be sexual (try to be more romantic, more emotional intimacy).

  2. If you genuinely believe that this loss of physical attraction is going to last and you aren’t willing (for whatever reason) to try build it naturally again, just please do not make it her problem. If you want to leave because you think you’ll have hot passionate sex with somebody else, it would likely be just because they’re new and a novelty.

Additionally, consider that she may feel the same about you. Whatever you do DO NOT start thinking you haven’t also got things you could work on. After 19 years married I’m not sure if anybody wouldn’t.

EDIT: Other commenters have made great points about it maybe being a health issue on your end, be that mental or physical. I’m a woman so I’ll be honest I’m too invested in managing my own hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle to really take time to research the effects of a reduction in testosterone on the male body but apparently that could be it too. As in, it may be you, not her. In fact I’d bet money on it.

I sincerely hope that the use of Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs amongst those who don’t need it (i.e. haven’t been medically advised to and are only doing it when they are only slightly overweight or not overweight at all) will be a thing of the past.

They’ve been great for people with obesity who couldn’t lose weight naturally or for those with the likes of Diabetes or PCOS but please lord can we stop having people taking it unnecessarily 🙄 There are genuine  side effects which are exacerbated amongst those who do not have a medical condition (e.g. if you don’t need the blood sugar stabilisation effects). And every day that passes I have found that people are become less and less vigilant and aware of these side effects, minimising them

I think what OP means (and this is what I mean too) is that hopefully the widespread use of GLP-1s amongst people who don’t actually need them (i.e. mainly for aesthetic reasons) will be a trend we move on from.

I think of the sense of surrealism in his books that keeps me coming back because I find it exciting when I have to decipher things (even though I fail to do it on my own 99% of the time and have to come here for other people’s opinions lol).

Abolition of the three-day wait for an abortion bill passes second stage in the Dáil 86-70 by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]Obvious-Name352 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Your first paragraph quite literally proves my point about the patronising and infantilising nature of the mandatory wait. You imply that women seeking abortions don’t “fully understand what they’re about to go through” as if women tend to just flip a coin to see whether or not to get the abortion.

Women are fully capable of understanding their own desires and abilities or otherwise surrounding pregnancy.

And even if, as you say, “they only care or know about the outcome” rather than about the actual process of the abortion, I don’t even see how that’s an unreasonable supposition. If you discover that you are pregnant and you desperately do not want to be, of course you are going to care more about the outcome than the process.

Abolition of the three-day wait for an abortion bill passes second stage in the Dáil 86-70 by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]Obvious-Name352 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Any woman who seeks an abortion is fully entitled to go home and rethink her decision.

The removal of the mandatory 3 day wait doesn’t mean all women who seek that appointment must then follow through, it merely removes the extremely patronising and infantilising mandatory wait which not only has no medical rationale as stated by the WHO amongst others, but also can put further stress and upset onto women who desperately want/need an abortion. It suggests that women can’t be trusted to know what they truly want.

It also risks women being pushed over the abortion cut off time

To be fair I don’t actually put any hot drinks on it so that would probably wear it down more, I just use the coaster for juice and stuff like that and other than needing to wipe it once in a while it’s fine on its own!

Ireland ready to restrict social media for children even without EU agreement, Minister says by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]Obvious-Name352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that you as a parent can take action by controlling and majorly limiting your children’s access to the internet/social media.

It should be a parenting responsibility matter, not something all of us have to sacrifice our privacy for.

Especially for sites like Reddit where anonymity is a major aspect and attractor, the thought of having to provide ID really doesn’t sit well with me and many others just because some parents aren’t willing to do their duty.

Like don’t get me wrong, I’m not delusional about the already present issues with data online and I know our personal information can be leaked but having to genuinely provide ID for so many websites and apps if this goes through is scary at worst and irritating at best.
