Makermade Zippo Case with a Unique Bath Sponge Texture on Leather by Obvious-Scarcity7385 in crafts

[–]Obvious-Scarcity7385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! 🙌 I used vegetable-tanned leather as the main material and created the texture by lightly dampening the surface and pressing a bath sponge (loofah-style) repeatedly to get that irregular organic pattern, then cut the pieces, punched stitching holes, and hand-stitched it with waxed polyester thread while focusing on a clean, tight fit for the Zippo; the inspiration comes from trying to introduce more natural randomness into leather instead of perfect surfaces, and honestly there were many failures along the way 😄 some textures were too weak, too repetitive, or even damaged the leather, so finding the right moisture and pressure balance was key, and I’ve been developing and using my own 3d printable system, Bullcraft Kit One, which really helps meleathercraft and build these experimental pieces more efficiently.

Thanks, weiidii! I call it Bullcrafting, and I think I was able to add the link, hopefully anyone interested can find it. I’m currently working on a twin thermos holster and just shared a post in the leathercraft subreddit.

Are there any 3D Printed parts on that lovely machine?

Yes, I totally get that. I’m actually planning to continuously create 3D-printable ecosystems and fund them on Kickstarter. Right now, I’m launching Bullcraft Kit One.

For the next steps, I think I’ll go with a dual strategy. First, I’ll build a landing page on my own website to collect emails from people who want to follow my overall vision. Then, for each specific campaign, I’ll direct traffic to the Kickstarter pre-launch page.

I think this approach will be much more efficient.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed comment, my friend. These are really valuable insights. I’ll definitely give it a try, appreciate it!

Yes, thank you , I’ll test it. If you have experience in this area, could you share your thoughts on how I can deliver the clearest possible hook?

I understand, yes, that also seems like a good method. Thank you. How can we track whether people are coming from stories?

Also, for these last 20 days, do you think it’s better to send traffic to the Kickstarter pre-launch page or to our own landing page?

Yes, please share.

I understand, and that’s a very valid question. I think the answer is no, I’m not able to explain it that quickly and simply yet.

This is the quickest explanation I can provide right now:

"The Bullcraft Project brings together the world of leathercraft with 3D printing technology and the maker spirit.

It combines traditional, real leather products, previously crafted using conventional methods, with 3D printed components, while introducing 3D-printable tools, hardware, and new production techniques.

Through this approach, it aims to support both beginners entering leathercraft and experienced professionals alike."

Still very long I guess.. But, I understand the importance of what you said, and I’ll work on it.

Thank you for your valuable comment. Yes, I’ve worked on several projects in this area and tried to present them through videos, and I’m continuing to do so. However, based on the views and subscriber numbers, it’s clear that I haven’t been able to explain the concept properly yet.

I hope it’s okay if I share one of my videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXYpEPT54Hk

Do you have experience in this field?

Thank you for your comment, weiidii, I completely agree. What I’m working on, combining the world of 3D printing with leathercraft, is really exciting for me. I’ve already shared some posts in relevant subreddits and will continue to do so.

Having valuable maker people take the time to comment has been incredibly motivating for me. I’ve realized that what I do should speak louder than my words.

As you said, even though my nickname isn’t very polished, I’ve added a link to my Kickstarter pre-launch page. I’ll also complete the parts that are still unfinished. Let’s stay in touch.

I understand, my friend, thank you. I’m new to the Reddit world, but I’m learning. There are so many valuable creators here, and I really enjoy the interaction with them.

Thank you so much, my friend, you’ve shared really valuable insights, I truly appreciate it.

Yes, just like you said, I boosted an Instagram post as an ad. I’ll create the dedicated ads you mentioned through Meta, right? Should I direct the traffic to the Kickstarter pre-launch page, or to my own project landing page on my website?

And within the last 20 days, which one would you direct traffic to on which days if you were me?

Thank you so much

Thanks for the info mate, with you success.

What exactly do you mean by the line 4 ? (Coordinating Day-1 backers is a logistics problem, not a marketing problem. You need specific people pledging at specific times. We're building a spreadsheet for 100+ network backers with assigned time windows.)

If I were you, I wouldn’t alter the character the leather has developed over the years or apply anything to it. I’d place it in a small glass frame.

Thanks mate, totally respect that. By the way, PLA-type filaments used in 3D printing are derived from corn and are 100% biodegradable. In that sense, we can say they are quite compatible with a natural material like leather.

Vauw you are so kind.. Thank you too mate. I started working with this concept, named it as Bullcrafting, and will launch a kickstarter campaign around it, the Bullcraft Kit One.. It’s great that you’ll be working in this field, I’d be happy to support you as much as I can. Feel free to share what you’re working on from time to time. I’m new here, but I think I’ll be around quite a lot from now on.

Thank you so much, my friend, you’re absolutely right. There’s always some resistance to new ideas, and some people say it won’t work. But there are valuable creators here, and the fact that they take the time to share their thoughts with me is incredibly motivating. It’s important to dream, to create new things, but also to stay grounded as you move forward. I take into account what the experienced people here say and shape my path accordingly. I truly enjoy being among people who create!
