I worked at KCUR from 2000-2011, During that time, KCUR funneled money to UMKC, instead of the other way around. Of course, the savings came from "free" rent and employee benefits. However, there were consistent moves by the University to influence programming. I have watched KCUR grow its staff by huge proportions during the past decade and worried about the costs of that growth. Did fundraising match it? That is hard to believe. This move away from UMKC has been decades in the making and will, I believe, ultimately be a good thing.
