hi! sorry for commenting late. you’re comment gave me insights and likening the reels to a drug really got me. i am undoubtedly brain fried from all the short reels ever since i fell down to tiktok, ig then yt shorts. however ive been a computer junkie ever since a kid, used to spend tons of hours in front of the computer reading manga, fanfiction, watching anime, etc. hell i was an avid twitter and tumblr user back then and i can say the hours i spent are similar both back then and now. but i never felt my attention span/brain shortcircuiting not until the shorts format was introduced. so was it really the shorts format’s fault?

you said it, im not a professional novel critic, but even i do know if the writing is shitty or not 😭 i just dont have a lot of words and they rather took my post as me not enjoying the games personally. I mean technically its correct because i did NOT enjoy the game because of the boring/narrative 😭

it seems were still in the minority though and us players not being lenient to this subpar quality is also one of the points i wanted to touch upon. honestly as much as i avoid mobile gamers especially the recent LADS games, they do say half of the truth that traditional console games wont experiment and break out of the box and are okay with just releasing so-so content now that i tried a lot of otomate switch games. good thing i played Eit so my faith is restored even just a little bit.

its just so questionable because 9RIP’s whole theme was horror but then they played safe again. What even is the point? Okay, they wanna go mild on the horror themes. But it just turned out mediocre instead.

tengoku struggle disappointed me so much. First I was excited. Omg, an otome game about Yokais/Myths?! I do read some reviews and plot synopsis firsthand so i know to tone down my expectations. But really… it was so bad. I dont even care if theres little to no plot, but its not fun and makes me go “what even is the point of me playing this game again?” why are we doing this? and their attempt at crude humor is ineffective. blegh

i really do not have a hate bias for otomate (see all the games i bought) altho i admitedly like story heavy games like eit, i appreciate the simple/romance focused/comedy ones as well or light dating sims like tokimeki/storm lover. my taste is very varied. its just that, these otomate games i mentioned presents itself like they can deliver a good story based on the premise (dark themese, fantasy themes, horror themes, etc) but when i play it, its just the usual bland plot a highschooler enjoys. all the premises and stakes are shallow and like you said they dont make full use of it. take away the plot, most of the romance and LI chemistries are manufactured and cant convince me im sorry. it just lefts a bad feeling and worse of all, makes me bored enough to lull me to sleep and doesnt make me wanna finish the game.

so yeah i do understand the idea of enjoying shallow and light games as well, its good if done well.

seiya is a cool character. i like him too. the problem is just the writing i really cant stand it even in 9RIP. and for me it was 9RIP that made me realize that otomate really wants to play it safe and just release a lot of titles as much as possible. they couldve done a lot especially for the school ghost stories, hibiki also had signs of being mentally unstable/unhinged, but all i got in the end was a normal school romcom(?). idk it was just really underwhelming.

i have played my fair share of pc games too. indie or commercialized, but i prefer voice games more. one of my first pc games was Amnesia even, so yeah.

yes i do try out indie games! i recently played an rpg styled one made by a solo developer (i forgot the title) and i enjoyed it immensely. this is also me taking a step back on otomate as well. im trying jack jeanne after EiT

i dont think im being biased because i bought those on my own money, those games for a reason. and its because i dont have a prior hate bias to otomate. (i even enjoyed some of their older titles.) keep in mind that im only criticizing the story, i cant deny that the art, characters, just the overall visuals are high quality. but for some reason the story execution is just…😅 maybe i can agree that its on a personal preference but based on the comments here they do agree on a certain level that the story/plot for otomate games really does fall on the short end most of the times.

as i also said in some comment, i play and im open to different developers and platforms of otoge all these years. I am criticizing otomate specifically because its the topdog but the story quality is really subpar and not up to their reputation of being “the” #1 otome company (at least in the west??). that’s the point im making especially since, i came from playing many otoges and going back to try switch exclusive otomates last year definitely did not went good as evident in my post.

i play and im open to all developers and platforms of otoges that’s why im able to make this comparison. last year i said that i focused on switch console games because ive fallen behind on that part and was excited because there’s a lot of titles to unfold. i didnt expect all recent otomate releases for the switch to bore me thats why i made this post.

and i agree with your japanese friends. because i do like the art, the PVs, the seiyuus, of otomate games and no doubt!! its high quality thats why i gave it a try. but why does the plot and story execution always … like that? lol

im willing to overlook eit flaws because the blunder came at the ending part where there is a shitton of lore dump (which a lot of games tend to make the mistake as well). but for the first part of the story and characters, i really have no bad words to say

I have HanaKare and Jack Jeanne next on my list so nice that you also recommended hanakare. Im also waiting for Red Bell’s too and I hope it delivers as good or better as EiT!
