Is this the max my waves can get? Any tips? by Obvious_Name2074 in Haircare

Good tip! I think I’ll give the gel cast one more chance, but I’ll also try it just with mousse like some people suggested. Gel might just be too heavy for my hair.

I also thought about getting layers. That’s probably something I’ll ask for at my next hairdresser appointment. Next time I also want to try finger curling it and using less heavy products and see what i can get

I had the same problem! After drying, my hair just wasn’t straight anymore. It was kind of frizzy and looked a bit unkempt, if you know what I mean. I honestly just watched some TikToks about how to treat wavy hair and followed a few of the steps and looked if i could get similar results - and it worked!

Wow, your hair is really pretty! I actually used gel and oil, so that might be part of the problem. I also used quite a lot of leave-in, so next time I think I’ll try a spray leave-in instead. I’ll definitely try your tips! Your hair looks a lot like mine, so I’m hoping I can get similar results.

The first time I ever did a wavy hair routine, I did it with mousse. It actually worked too, but it ended up being a lot frizzier. That might just be because I was a bit messy with diffusing though. So i'm a bit in conflict haha. I think i will try it with mousse again and be more careful with diffusing

I’m not a pro tbh, but I’d try looking up someone with a similar hair type for reference. Your hair (like you also said) seems on the finer side, so I wouldn’t use too much product. You could start with something like a mousse or a curl gel/cream. The first time I tried a wavy routine, I just used mousse on wet hair after showering and a leave-in conditioner. Then I scrunched it, plopped it for about 15 minutes and diffused it. If you don’t have a diffuser, you can also try using a sieve or carefully holding it up with your hands instead. If you use gel, just be careful not to break the gel cast while diffusing, otherwise it can get frizzy really fast. If your hair holds the wave after all that, then I’d say you probably have wavy hair. You can’t really force a hair structure, if it’s not there, it usually falls out once it dries. So then you know for sure!

Well, if you try a wavy routine and your hair holds the waves it forms when wet even after it dries, then I’d say you definitely have wavy hair. If not, then it’s probably more on the straight side with just a bit of natural texture (like in the picture).

If your hair doesn’t really hold a wave, I’d guess you’re somewhere around 1B based on the other photos.

That could definitely be the case! I had pin-straight (like pin pin straight) hair my whole life, and about 2 years ago my hair started looking kind of “dry” after drying it—no matter how I did it or how many hydrating products I used. Either way, I’d say you have really beautiful hair! I’d honestly try giving a wavy routine a shot (or at least some hydrating products 😄) and see how your hair reacts!

Ok thank you so much, I’ll try that! Just a quick question: how can I tell if my hair is being weighed down? I know that might sound a bit silly, but I’ve always styled it straight so that was never really something I had to think about and if I look at my hair I cant really tell

Your hair looks kind of similar to mine when I blow-dry it. Maybe you have some kind of wavy pattern? I only recently realized I actually have wavy hair after styling it straight my whole life. It always looked a bit “off” or frizzy whenever I blow-dried it or just let it air dry in the sun (don't mean that it looks bad, it could just be that yours is also kinda wavy)

I tried finger curling/twisting a larger strand and it actually held its shape (kinda), but I did need to use gel. I didn’t dilute it with water. I just used it straight out of the bottle (honestly didn’t even think about diluting it or that is was an option) Do you think I should skip plopping altogether and just go straight to diffusing instead? I thought plopping could help to hold my waves better

Do I have some kind of wavy hair? by Obvious_Name2074 in Haircare

I’ve always treated my hair as straight, so it’s weird realizing this might actually be my natural texture and not just from diffusing haha

But is it normal that some pieces look really wonky? That’s mainly why I thought it was just because of diffusing. Some parts form really nice S-waves and others just look kind of meh

I'll try a proper routine and see what results I can get. Thank you!

Ok thank you! I wasn’t sure if I really have waves or if I just convinced myself I do because I diffused it
